Essay
Instructions: Applicants must submit a total of two (2) required essays. One essay prompt is prescribed by Carey, and must be responded to directly. The second essay prompt may be selected from the list below.
It is important to express your original thoughts and incorporate your individual voice and unique style in response to these questions. Be sure your statements capture who you are, what you believe, and what you aspire to do. In addition:
- Use a 12-point font and double space your document
- Indicate which question you are answering at the beginning of each essay
- DO NOT mail paper copies of your essay to the Admissions Office
- Upload all required essays
First Required Essay(300-500 words)
Please respond to the following required essay prompt:
1). Grounded in the Johns Hopkins’ legacy of excellence and research, we aren’t limited by tradition. We’re inspired by it. At Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, we shape business leaders who seize opportunity, inspire change, and create lasting value.
How is your future industry evolving and in what ways do you hope to inspire change and create lasting value?
Second Required Essay- please respond to one of the following prompts (300-500 words):
Choose one of the following:
1) Describe a time in your personal or professional life when you experienced a setback or failure. How did you react during the situation and what did you learn from the experience?
2) Discuss a turning point in your life -- an accomplishment, event, or other critical moment – that helped you understand yourself or the world around you in new ways.
3) At Johns Hopkins University, we have the common goal of improving the lives of others. Johns Hopkins graduates work to improve society in different ways, from taking on the world’s biggest challenges to transforming their local communities. Describe one way in which you have already contributed to one of your communities (family, school, neighborhood, work place) beyond the expected.
