项目背景
自2000年达喀尔“联合国世界教育论坛”通过“全民教育目标”已有二十年。二十年间，尽管各国在实现全民教育的道路上已经开足马力，并取得了长远发展，但是，即使在2015年“目标”的最后期限，全民教育的目标也依然没有实现。教育在很长时间都无法完全惠及边缘化群体。移民问题、性别问题、种族/民族问题催生的教育不平等使得大部分进展或将前功尽弃。如何比较不同的教育体系？如何关注社会阶层、种族/民族、移民身份和性别带来的教育问题？项目将以中美两个教育大学的教育体系为例，带领学生自主探索上述问题的答案。

项目内容包括地方与中央治理如何影响学校的社会角色，中美两国如何定义种族/民族与移民，中美两国教育体系的性别模式，高等教育为何无法等同于优质劳动力，如何有效比较教育体系。学生将通过项目全面培养独立思辩与批判能力，提升阅读写作技能，对教育不平等问题形成自己独到的见解与感知，能够从不同视角比较中美教育体系，在项目结束时选择感兴趣的学生群体展开探究，提交报告，进行成果展示。

Sebastian
纽约大学终身教授
Dr. Sebastian is a sociologist whose scholarly and community-based work focuses on the social lives of marginalized youth. He is now an Associate Professor of International Education at NYU. His interests include comparative perspectives on race/ethnicity (with a focus on China and the US), immigrant adaptation, and social capital within the school and educational context. His scholarship has appeared in journals such as American Educational Research Journal, Educational Researcher, Social Forces, and Social Science Research. Dr. Sebastian received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and Bachelor's from MIT.

学校教育结构：地方与中央治理：项目将在本周探讨地方与中央治理如何影响学校的社会角色。 The structure of schooling: disperse versus central governance. Students will examine how the governance of schools, either by local or centralized powers, influence their social role.
学校教育与社会再生产：项目将在本周聚焦中美两国如何定义种族/民族与移民。 Schooling and social reproduction. Students will study two contexts, the US and China, and how each conceptualizes race/ethnicity and migration.
学校教育的同化功能与移民/国际学生：项目将在本周探讨学校教育的同化功能，以及移民/国际学生的规范化教育经历。 Assimilative schooling and (im)migrant/international students. Students will discuss the assimilative function of schools, and how ‘the other’ experiences normative education.
高知低酬：教育背后的性别故事：项目将在本周聚焦中美两国教育体系的性别模式，以及高等教育为何无法等同于优质劳动力。 More education but still less pay: a gender story in education. Students will examine gender of patterns in education in the US and China, and how more attainment does not always translate to better labor.
比较的使用（和误用）：视角的力量：项目将在本周聚焦国际教育，如何有效比较教育体系。 The use (and misuse) of comparison: the power of perspective. Students will end the course by discussing the field of international education, and how to compare different educational systems in a meaningful way.
