课程设置：

Year 1

Sociology

We will introduce you to key sociological ideas by studying the relationship between individuals and groups through examining examples such as:

l social change

l drug use

l race

l ethnicity

l gender

We also help you develop the key skills you need to study sociology and apply your knowledge to life outside the classroom.

You will select from a wide range of option courses, depending on the programme you choose.

Psychology

Within the psychology element of your programme there is a strong emphasis on research methods and statistical analysis. From the start of the programme, you will be trained in basic concepts in research methods and statistics, as well as programming in R.

You will also have a practical introduction to laboratory-based psychology research.

Through lectures and tutorials, you will complete a general introduction to psychology, covering:

l cognitive psychology

l developmental psychology

l the psychology of memory and perception

l individual differences

l language and thinking

l social psychology

It is also strongly recommended that you take the Data Analysis for Psychology in R1 course which will provide the foundations in working with data, probability, hypothesis testing and the use of R statistical programming environment.

Year 2

Sociology

You will study how sociologists produce and use theory (Sociology 2a) and research evidence (Sociology 2b). You will then choose four option courses, depending on your programme.

Psychology

Within the psychology element you will complete a year-long, intensive grounding in research methods and statistics, as well as R programming, to prepare you for Year 3.

You will continue to study core areas of psychology, developing an integrated understanding of topics such as:

l individual differences

l abnormal, developmental and social psychology

l perception

l cognitive neuroscience

l language

l memory/learning

You will practise and develop your professional and study skills, such as:

l reviewing scientific literature

l report writing

l ethical awareness

Year 3

You will study a mix of honours courses offered in sociology and psychology.

To support your research work in psychology, you will complete further specialist courses in research methods, which you will conduct using R.

Year 4

Alongside your honours choices you will complete a project in one discipline.

Please note that if you are interested in attaining British Psychological Association (BPA) accreditation you will need to do your project in psychology.
