Curriculum
The broad goal of the School's curriculum is to develop each student's ability to think critically and give each individual
the tools to express ideas through drawing, modeling , and writing. The necessary technical and aesthetic skills are
learned through a carefully structured curriculum that stresses creativity, research, and problem solving. Student work
and personal point of view are enriched through rigorous and frequent dialogue between faculty and fellow students.
The highly integrated curriculum also includes opportunities to explore individual interests. The five-year program
consists of 162 credits (most courses are 3 or 6 credits). Of these, 120 credits are in professional architecture courses,
30 in arts and sciences, and 12 in other free electives that can be taken in any other college on campus. Click the link
below to see a chart of the curriculum
During the first four years of study, the concentration is on developing professional skills. Work includes visual and
architectural design training, plus required courses in technical and structural design, history, and theory. In the fifth
year, opportunities for critical and self-initiated work encourage research and the incorporation of ideas and skills
acquired in the first four years.
Portfolio
A portfolio of creative work is required for admission to the School of Architecture. This is a personal statement about
you, your visual training, interest, and aspirations. Each portfolio is reviewed by an architecture admissions
representative and is an important part of the way the school can learn more about you and your talents.
