比较冷门的一个专业开设在加州大学伯克利分校,Master of Development Engineering
每年全球只招生35个学生。
The UC Berkeley Master of Development Engineering responds both to the growing need for Development Engineers to solve societal challenges as well as to the increasing importance of technology in the aid sector. The program reflects the demand for diverse STEM professionals who can invent, adapt, or implement technologies to benefit low-resource communities.
The program fosters “T-shaped” professionals who have a broad base of general skills as well as deep knowledge in one area. The broad skills include the design and management of technology, knowledge of emerging technologies, evidence-based assessment techniques, economic development, and community engagement.
The program’s curriculum enables students to further their expertise in one of the following four predefined areas:
AI/Data Analytics for Social Impact:
Students take courses on how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data tools and analytics give the social, civic, and international development sectors actionable insights.
Energy, Water, and the Environment:
Students take courses on core natural resource challenges—water and energy systems and their impact on the environment—and on life cycle assessment, water resource management, agricultural impact, and energy technologies and policies.
Sustainable Design Innovations:
Students take courses on sustainable design and social entrepreneurship, including principles of green design, the science of sustainability, resilient communities, sustainable economic models, green chemistry, product design, spatial modeling, affordable housing, public transportation, and equitable development.
Healthcare Transformations:
Students take courses on the rapidly evolving landscape of global healthcare technologies and practices, including biomedical device design, health policy, health impact assessment, and the digital transformation of health care.
If a student has interests outside of these areas, it is possible to devise a Self-Designed Concentration in, for example, gender equity, global education, or technology, development and policy.

Applicants to the UC Berkeley Master of Development Engineering should be early- to mid-career professionals with an interest in advancing technology-driven solutions for local and global development.
Applicants must meet all Graduate Division admission requirements. Strong candidates will have a STEM background with prior work experience in development or applied technologies. Preparation can be a degree in an engineering or science discipline or in a social science or natural resource discipline with some quantitative coursework.
All applicants must have the requisite technical preparation. At minimum, all applicants should have a two-course series in a technical area, such as computer science, economics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or data science, dependent on their undergraduate major. While post-baccalaureate work experience is not required for this program, prospective students are encouraged to have one to three years of work experience before applying. Outstanding undergraduates with professional experience, such as internships, will also be considered. Additionally, non-required qualifications include: experience in technology, development, entrepreneurship, leadership, or social or environmental policy; a background in nonprofit, community engagement, or government work; or contributions to diversity, equity, or inclusion.
Students at the time of application will be asked to decide in one of the four following concentration areas–AI/data analytics for social impact; energy, water, and the environment; sustainable design innovations; or healthcare transformations–and provide context for their area of interest.
As with all approved graduate-level programs at UC Berkeley, applicants will be held to rigorous academic criteria in order to be admitted to this program. A bachelor’s degree, or recognized equivalent, from an accredited institution is required.
