Riding high in a workers’ world
There is no place for the XX idea that…nor the related…
There is no place for the short-sighted idea that we can develop the economy at the cost of the environment, nor the related argument that we can "grow now, clean up later", because environmental protection is a matter of great urgency.
Ten million reasons to vaccinate the world
It is wrong to put teenagers, who have a minuscule risk of dying from covid-19, before the elderly and health-care workers in poor countries. The rich world should not stockpile boosters to cover the population many times over on the off-chance that they may be needed.
第二句里面有一个值得留意的句型:on the off-chance that…
Many college students who have squandered the best part of the semester cram for the final exams on the off-chance that they may be able to get through them.
How Europe has mishandled the pandemic
Europe can take comfort from the fact that the vaccination programme will catch up over the summer. Across the continent, Euroscepticism has been in decline during the pandemic, and politicians who used to flirt with leaving, like Matteo Salvini or Marine Le Pen, have changed their tune.
XX can take comfort from the fact that…
The covid-19 pandemic played havoc with China’s economy last year, but we can take comfort from the fact that the virus is now under control and that the economy is on the rebound.
Teenagers are rewriting the rules of the news
That is especially the case in…where…
Across the globe environmental problems are getting ever more pressing. That is especially the case in developing countries, where governments tend to buy prosperity at the expense of the environment.
