The U.S. News rankings methodology focuses on academic excellence, with schools evaluated on hundreds of data points and up to 15 measures of academic quality. Overall the rankings emphasize student outcomes – such as graduation and freshman retention rates – which carry the most weight at 30 percent. U.S. News also offers a more in-depth look at schools providing specifics not only on academic life, but also student body makeup, financial aid, student life and services offered (up to over 500 data points per school). Also, students can research schools with the most economic diversity, ethnic diversity, as well as the most international students.
