Required Short Answer Questions
Answer all three questions. Respond in 500 characters only (the equivalent of about 100 words per question).
- Why are you pursuing the MMS degree at this stage in your professional development?
- What are your immediate career goals after completing the MMS program?
- Life is full of uncertainties, and plans and circumstances can change. As a result, navigating a career requires you to be adaptable. Should the immediate goals that you provided above not materialize, what alternative directions have you considered?
Required Essay 1
Instructions: Present your response in list form, numbered from 1 - 25. Some points may only be a few words, while others may be longer. Your complete list should not exceed 2 pages.
Question: The "Team Fuqua" spirit and community is one of the things that set the Fuqua experience apart, and it is a concept that extends beyond the student body to include faculty, staff, and administration. When a new person joins the Admissions Team, we ask that person to share with everyone in the office a list of "25 Random Things About Yourself." As an Admissions team, we already know the new hire's professional and academic background, so learning these "25 Random Things" helps us to get to know someone's personality, background, special talents, and more.
In this spirit, the Admissions Committee also wants to get to know you—beyond the professional and academic achievements listed in your resume and transcript. You can share with us important life experiences, your likes/dislikes, hobbies, achievements, fun facts, or anything that helps us understand what makes you who you are.
Required Essay 2
Instructions: From the two options below, choose only one of the questions to answer. Your response to either essay question should be no more than 500 words, with a font size of no less than 10-point. Respond fully and concisely using 1.5 line spacing. Do not copy the essay question in the document you upload with your application.
Option 1 Question:
The motto of Fuqua’s Career Management Center is “Fueled by Fuqua, Driven by You.” There are many career resources available to students that can help you define your career path and manage your job search. Resources include industry and career focused clubs, the Duke Alumni network, individual career coaching sessions, corporate presentations, and more. How will you utilize the career resources available to you at Fuqua to achieve your career goals? You may wish to highlight strategies you have used in your previous internship and job searches as well.
Option 2 Question:
The MMS: FOB program is shaped each year by the diversity of the class. Students bring a unique combination of professional and personal experiences that add value to the learning environment. By engaging with each other, MMS: FOB students grow personally as well as professionally over the course of the program. The admissions team is looking for students who are eager to engage with, and learn from, one another both inside the classroom and through their involvement in extracurricular activities. How will you be engaged as a student (both in and out of the classroom), and how will your background and previous experiences add value to the experience of your fellow students?
Optional Essay
If you feel there are circumstances of which the admissions committee should be aware, please explain them (e.g. unexplained gaps in work, choice of recommenders or lack of a professional recommendation, inconsistent or questionable academic performance. Do NOT upload additional essays nor additional recommendations in this area. The Optional Essay is intended to provide the admissions committee with insight into your circumstances only.
