入学要求:
要获得入学资格,您必须满足一般入学要求,并且必须:
持有由大学教育资助委员会资助的香港某高等教育机构的学位;或
持有本校认可的本地或非本地机构的同等学位;或
已满足专业认可的专业机构的法人资格的学术要求;或
已获得大学可接受的同等资格,或提供了学术和专业成就相关证据。
申请人可能需要参加入学考试和/或面试。
语言要求:
非英语教学机构获得入学资格的申请人还应满足以下最低英语水平要求:
英语作为外语考试(TOEFL)的分数为59分(改版后线下版toefl)^或79分(机考)@#;或
国际英语考试系统(IELTS)的总分为6.5分@;或
中国大陆大学英语六级考试450分;或
其他同等资格。
鉴于新冠肺炎的最新发展,以下所示的“托福iBT家庭版”和“雅思在线版”被视为同等资格,以满足大学课程入学的最低英语水平要求,直至另行通知:
TOEFL iBT家庭版:79分;或
雅思在线版:总分6.5分
@托福和雅思成绩有效期为两年。申请人必须提供在大学申请期开始前两年内取得的英语考试成绩。
#申请人需要与教育考试服务(ETS)安排将其托福成绩直接发送至大学申请部。城市大学的托福机构代码为3401。
^自2021 4月11日起,托福修订版纸上考试不再提供。

Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirement and must:
hold a degree from one of the tertiary educational institutions of Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee; or
hold a degree of a level equivalent to the above from a local or non-local institution recognized for this purpose by the University; or
have satisfied the academic requirements for corporate membership of a professional institution recognized for this purpose by the University; or
have obtained an equivalent qualification, or provided evidence of academic and professional attainments, acceptable for this purpose to the University.
Applicants may be required to take an entry test and/or interview.
语言要求:
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement:
a score of 59 (revised paper-delivered test)^ or 79 (Internet-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)@#; or
an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@; or
a score 450 in the new College English Test (CET-6) of Chinese mainland; or
other equivalent qualifications.
In view of the recent development of COVID-19, ‘TOEFL iBT Home Edition’ and ‘IELTS Indicator’, as indicated below, are accepted as equivalent qualifications for the fulfillment of the University’s minimum English proficiency requirement for admission to TPg programmes until further notice:
TOEFL iBT Home Edition: a score of 79; or
IELTS Indicator: an overall band score of 6.5
@TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period.
# Applicants are required to arrange with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for CityU is 3401.
^ Effective from 11 April 2021, the TOEFL revised paper-delivered test is no longer offered.
Course Description
Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:
- analyze the structure and use of language in different social / cultural contexts;
- reflect critically on the nature of language, and the issues of language in its actual use;
- apply effective communication skills in their work places in their role as language professionals;
- formulate generalizations on the processes and strategies involved in making discoveries in their respective fields of specialization;
- (for students in the stream of general linguistics) analyze the structure of language, generate innovative linguistic analyses; reflect critically on the social, cultural and psychological aspects of language use, and apply such knowledge in their work;
- (for students in the stream of corpus and empirical linguistics) apply a range of conceptual skills, with a focus on the corpus and latest empirical tools, to enhance students' ability and efficiency in generating creative solutions to language tasks and to reflect critically on the multifaceted issues involved in the application of language studies;
- (for students in the stream of pedagogical linguistics) apply a range of concepts and skills to language learning and its related pedagogical applications, and to enhance students the ability to be exposed to language acquisition and teaching in global contexts; and
- (for students in the stream of translation and interpretation) apply a range of conceptual tools and skills learned to enhance their ability in generating creative solutions to translation and interpretation tasks, and reflect critically on the multifaceted issues involved in translation and interpretation.
