Exciting new developments for the UC Business School Business Taught Masters programmes
Following extensive consultation with past and current students, as well as feedback from valuable industry partners, the University of Canterbury (UC) Business School has made significant changes to four of its Business Taught Masters programmes – Master of Business Management, Master of Financial Management, Master of Business Information Systems and Master of Professional Accounting.
Students who are enrolled in one of these four Master degrees will now be eligible to progress to their final Masters term providing they are meeting the degree requirements. GPA will not be a factor.
In their final term, students will be required to complete either a project or project based courses that will allow them to apply the lessons learnt in class to the world. Students will produce substantial pieces of work to demonstrate higher learning and application to real world problems.
Students will be able to apply for an industry based project or internship which will provide industry experience and exposure. Success in securing a project or internship is subject to academic performance, project availability and the approval of the Programme Director. Project and internship students will produce a body of work based on the needs of the organisation they are assigned to.
This is a significant change to the programmes as all students who achieve the minimum passing grades during the first two trimesters will be eligible to achieve a globally recognised and highly sought-after degree Master’s degree, from a university in the top 1% worldwide.
In another development, the term dates for the Business Taught Masters programmes will be altered so that they are more appropriate to the international audience. Previously four terms, the programmes will now run over three to provide longer teaching periods. The new term schedules will be:
Term 1: 12 weeks from early-February to late-April
Term 2: 12 weeks from mid-May to early-August
Term 3: 12 weeks from late-August to late-November
Business Taught Masters Programme Director Mr Stephen Hickson welcomed these improvements. “Given the significant investment, both financially and time-wise, from international students to study at the UC Business School, it was essential that we re-designed the Business Taught Masters programmes. All students, who achieve the mandatory pass rate regardless of GPA, now have the opportunity to progress and achieve what they aimed to come to Christchurch to do – graduate with a high quality Master’s degree and the opportunity to participate in a final term of applied industry project-based courses.”
The UC Business School welcomes students from across the world and from various backgrounds into the Business Taught Masters programmes. We hope these changes encourage more qualified students to enrol in these degrees over coming intakes.
