In his discussion, Eric contrasted the traditional HR organization, in which teams and processes are functionally organized, with how the talent workflow actually plays out - from workforce planning, to staffing job roles, learning and development, incentive and recognition and the overall employee experience. He also spoke about the value of focusing on skills vs jobs, such that businesses can deploy talent more flexibly and so that employees can more easily find roles that match their interests and career goals. Students appreciated his insights on leveraging data, technology and artificial intelligence to support this broader talent ecosystem.
It was a very interactive session, with our students asking Eric probing questions and making connections between Eric’s work and what they are learning about the latest trends in HR. He was very gracious and astute in helping us peer into the future while better understanding the present.
