专业简介
以儒家思想为主干的东亚文化是东亚地区人们相似心理和相似思想的表现。一方面,它包含着东亚人在人与自然的关系、民族关系、家庭关系等方面有着相似的愿望、要求、态度、认识和行动,这构成东亚文化的主流;另一方面,自东西方接触以来,西方文化逐渐浸染东亚地区,西方文化中的价值观念和思维模式在漫长的历史长河中给东亚以极深的影响。因此,东亚文化是东西方文化的结合体。
可以说,东亚问题是伴随着东亚奇迹和东亚现代化的发展的脚步走上世界舞台的。东亚问题引起学术界关注从时间上来说应该是70年代,对此台湾学者萧新煌指出,从70年代以来,东亚的发展经历越来越成为社会科学界所注意的一个焦点,尤其是那些对发展研究感兴趣的团体。由此引发了研究东亚的热潮,因为他们急于把东亚新兴工业化国家和地区的经验以某种方式传输到发展中世界的其他地方。研究者们把东亚的成功经验及一些发展特点概括为东亚发展模式。
就业分析
总的来说,东亚研究专业是社会岗位需求很大的专业,尤其曾在美国高校就读的留学生可以在政府部门和研究机构从事外事工作。同时还可以选择在大专院校及研究机构从事教育研究工作。例如:
政府:国际文教、侨务外交、文化行政、艺术行政等公私领域的人才。
产经:东亚台商或跨国企业干部、观光游憩及休闲管理业、大众传播业等人才。
文教:海外侨校教师、地方文史工作者、社区总体营造人才、文化产业人才。
学术:报考国内外历史、地理、政治、东(南)亚、观光等研究所。

Please complete the online application form for the FALL 2018 TERM. The online application will accept uploads of the following required application materials—do not send them to the department.

The statement of purpose is an important element in the application package for graduate study. We would like 2-3 pages detailing your field of interest and the relation between your studies and/or work experience to date, your current interests, and your reasons for wanting to obtain a graduate degree in East Asian Languages & Cultures from our department. For those applying to the PhD, please include a detailed description of the research project you plan to pursue in our graduate program. v

Provide scanned copies of your transcripts (a complete list of all courses taken and grades received) as well as any certificates of degree completion or diplomas for all the post-secondary schools you have attended (undergraduate and graduate programs). English translations should be provided when applicable, preferably from the school attended. We will accept translations done by the applicant. They should follow the same format, line-by-line, as the original document. Official documents (original or “attested” copies) will be required if you are admitted. v

A paper of 10-20 pages or an excerpt of similar length from a longer paper is required. The sample should showcase the applicant's academic ability. Please upload to the online application in the Program Specific section. v
※ LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Please provide three (3) letters of recommendation, preferably from professors familiar with your work. When you fill out the online application, you will need to include email addresses for all of your references. They will automatically receive an email from the online application with instructions on how to upload their letters of reference to your online application. If they don’t receive this email or have trouble uploading their letters, they should email SLCL Student Services: slclgradservices@illinois.edu.
The information you submit online, as well as the application fee ($70 for domestic applicants, $90 for international), goes directly to the Graduate Admissions office. The online application
