诺丁汉LLM 课程报道须知: LLM Modules and Provisional Timetable
Dear Offer Holder,
In preparation for your arrival in September, we would like to take the opportunity to provide you with some key information about your future studies with us at the School of Law.
Programme Structure and Confirmed Modules
Attached to this email you will find a document which provides you with a detailed overview of the way in which the LLM programme and its specialisms are structured, including the requirements which students must meet in order to qualify for their chosen specialist LLM degree. Also included is a section which provides a detailed outline of every module offered across all of the LLM programmes, so that you have detailed information about the focus of each module that is offered in order to help you identify the modules which you may be interested in studying. In some instances module conveners have also provided a named core or recommended text for use in the module, and in some cases also a recommended text for preparatory reading. Some of you may find this information of interest if you wish to do any pre-reading to familiarise yourself with particular topics. However, I do need to emphasise that pre-reading or any specific course preparation is by no means a requirement. Detailed module reading lists will become available once term has started and you have access to our online Virtual Learning Environment – Moodle.
Provisional Timetable
You will also find a provisional timetable for the full academic year attached to this email. We provide one overarching timetable which contains every module offered across all LLM degrees, owing to the fact that a student taking the general LLM Master of Laws has free reign to mix and match their module choices in any area of law offered. It is important to note that this timetable is provisional and could be subject to minor changes prior to your arrival in September. Owing to the fact that we operate small group teaching in seminar format, modules which are popular with students are split into two classes where possible, in order to ensure that the philosophy of small group, integrated and interactive teaching is maintained. Where modules are notoriously popular, two classes for modules pre-planned and incorporated into the timetable – this is why some modules within the attached timetable have two classes scheduled. Students will be allocated to one of the two groups once your formal module choices are made in the first week of October.
Module Interest
Complete a quick online form to indicate those modules which you are most interested in studied. I need to emphasise the fact that this is for indicative purposes only, to ensure that we prepare resource for each module appropriately in line with anticipated demand/popularity, and it will not act as your official module choices. You will not be required to formally choose your options for the LLM programme until the second week of term after you have had the opportunity to attend detailed option talks as part of our intensive induction week, and also after you have had the opportunity to ‘audit’ the first seminars of Autumn modules. This enables you to ensure that you are making fully informed module choices.
The form can be accessed here - please can we encourage you to complete this form by Friday 09 September 2016 so that we can ensure that we are best prepared for your arrival.
Save the date!
To support your arrival and transition into postgraduate studies, we operate an intensive induction programme which lasts for the first week of the Autumn term. The induction programme involves general information about the LLM programme and the School, as well as facilities and support services available to you throughout your studies. It also includes dedicated option talks at which you can find out key information on each of the modules available. This is also supplemented by sessions aimed at supporting students from a non-civil law background, students who do not have a prior law degree, and overarching talks on areas such as international commercial law and international human rights law.
The induction programme will start on Monday 26 September, with this day containing the main induction event for all new postgraduate taught students in the School. Please make sure that you make a special note of this date and organise your arrangements to prepare for and arrive in Nottingham to be able to attend the induction on this date.
