1. Find the dissertation topic 找寻并发现博士论文题目

The first step towards a doctorate is finding your own doctoral topic. You either have your own research idea or you develop one with a scientist at TUM. The creation of an exposé helps you to specify your research project in terms of its goals and sub-steps.

2. Contact the supervisor联系教授

The next step is to find a supervisor for your doctoral project. It is advantageous if you were able to establish contact while finding a topic. You can then contact the university professor or an employee directly with your documents (CV, letter of motivation, etc.) and an exposé. You can find a good overview of potential university professors on the faculty website or in the profiles of TUM professors（https://www.professoren.tum.de/） . 

所联系教授的研究方向，最好与自己的研究论文方向接近，这样对申请更有利，联系时提供自己的CV、动机信等材料。

3. Secure funding 寻求资金资助

There are no fees for a doctorate at TUM. However, you need to make a living. You can find an overview of all financing options in the Financing section .

4. Contact the Graduate Center联系慕尼黑工大的研究中心

Together with your supervisor, you will identify a technically suitable graduate center at TUM  and discuss all further (administrative) steps with them.

5. Conclude a supervision agreement获得博士导师协议

After clarifying the admission option at a suitable graduate center, you conclude a supervision agreement with your supervisor that specifies the key points of the planned doctorate. You can find the supervision agreement on the website of the respective graduate center . You can find out how to conclude a supervision agreement in the section Supervision Agreement and Mentoring .

6. Entry in the doctoral list 完成例行程序的博士线上注册

Entry in the doctoral list takes place across the university via the DocGS online platform（网址https://www.docgs.tum.de/）. For the application you need the completed and signed supervision agreement. Detailed instructions can be found on the pages for doctoral students .

7. Enrollment (optional)注册

After you have been entered on the doctoral list, you can enroll at TUM for a maximum of 6 semesters. In contrast to entry in the doctoral list, enrollment for doctoral candidates is voluntary. For more information on the pages for doctoral students .
