Describe a friend who you think is a good leader
You should say
· Who this friend is
· How you knew this person
· How other people behave towards him/her
And explain why you think he/she is a good leader

a friend, a good leader

1. ________________
2. ________________

>(Optional) How close of a friend is he/she:
>How you knew this person:
>(Optional) How did we become friends:
>How other people behave towards him/her:
>(Optional) Why would they behave like that:
>And explain why you think he/she is a good leader:
>(Optional) Is there a time he/she showed great leadership:
Now, please record your talk for this part 2. Remember, you will have to speak for 1 to 2 minutes.
You may check your answers with the checklist followed:
o Did I talk about a friend?
o Did I mention he/she is a good leader?
o Did my answer cover all the prompts?
o Did I use the correct tense?
o Did I use connectives to connect my ideas when needed?
o Did I speak without noticeable pauses and hesitation?
o Did I pronounce most of the words clearly and was my answer easy to follow?
Useful words and phrases:
a good friend of mine
we are very close to each other 我们关系很近
we share a lot in common
have a lot of leadership qualities
be not afraid to take responsibilities
assign tasks to others
跳脱到商业以外的语境下,能抗事也就是说他很勇敢、能够承担责任,而能管人也就是说他能很好的与人相处,也知道如何去分配任务:he is not afraid to take responsibilities, good at taking initiatives and also he can handle working with other people as well as assigning different tasks to different people he’s working with.
Sample answer:
So, a friend I’d consider to be a great leader is actually my classmate who I’m just going to call Joseph.
I first knew Joseph back in first year of college as we were assigned to the same home class. On our first day of university, I was sitting just a row behind him and I quickly discovered that we had a lot in common. We both appreciated Japanese animation culture, and everything related to it. Then, we became really close friends when we both joined our school's ACG club which was dedicated for people like us with a passion for animation, comics, and video games.
I think I noticed that he had a lot of good leadership qualities during a school festival. You see, we were asked to put together a so called “comic cafe” during our school's “club festival” when all clubs needed to present something for other students to see or to experience. We managed to set up a small café with some comic books free for all potential customers to read, but we just could not handle the actual operation of this café as none of us club members was really business-savvy. Long story short, Joseph was the one that saved the day in the end. He apparently had been helping out at this storefront his family owns for years at that time, so he was very familiar with handing customers and cash. Not only that, because he's the owners son, he was doing a lot of manager-esque stuff like keeping track of the tables and all the comic books as well as assigning tasks to different team members, leaving the rest of us in pure awe, ready to follow all of his directions.
Anyway, that would be the time I started to look at him under a completely different light. He was no longer just a friend that's fun to hang out with, but someone I could learn a lot from and definitely someone with many important leadership and management skills.

be dedicated to sth.

feel extremely sorry for sth.
以水污染为例,在将污染细化为水污染之后,则可以将范围较广的“水”通过“上下义替换”细化为具体的某一种“水体”(河流还是海洋、小溪还是池塘等等)以及它们遭受污染后的具体表现:the river was heavily contaminated, looking murky and dark with some mysterious particles floating on the surface, reeking of an awful smell
Sample answer:
Well, a polluted place I have been to has to be this small stream near my mom’s hometown. You see, my mom comes from a small village in the countryside and since our family mainly lives in the city now, we would go to visit her hometown every once in a while, especially during big holidays like Spring Festival or Mid-autumn festival.
My mom has always taken pride in having a hometown with a wonderful view and, overall, an unspoilt environment. Every time we go there, she would always take me and my dad along to go hiking in the mountains which the village is surrounded by to enjoy what she called “the freshest air on earth”. At the bottom of those mountains, on the side that is not facing the village, you’d find this small stream I mentioned where my family would often go to fish. It usually takes a while, but you are able to get some really big catches So, I would always look forward to visiting my mom’s hometown to relax and enjoy nature.
Now, you could imagine how disappointed and honestly devastated I was when I went with my family just last month to this village again. Well, because of the coronavirus, it had been almost a year since we last set foot in there. To our utter dismay, we discovered that almost half of the forest on those mountains were gone and that little stream I was talking about was looking all muddy and murky, and with a stinky smell.
My mom was especially distressed and asked around. Apparently, someone from the neighbouring village got a permit to log on those mountains and opened up a logging company just nearby. They only slowed down the damage because of the epidemic, otherwise we would not even see the rest half of the forest.
I mean, my mom is still pissed about this and she is planning to raise this issue to the local government. I’m just so saddened by what we tend to sacrifice in order to achieve this so called “development”.
Vocabulary from the sample answer:
take pride in doing sth.
what she called …
you could imagine 你能想到
set foot in … 踏进
to sb.’s utter dismay
a stinky smell 一股恶臭
a logging company 伐木公司
