Introduction

This full-time programme is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the English language through a variety of courses in literary works, linguistics and multimedia texts.

Through the study of English-language literature, popular culture and mass media, students will be equipped with the mastery of English language and knowledge of the cultural framework in which English language has developed and is used around the globe.

The programme is approved by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government:
(i) as a recognized language major degree programme;
(ii) as a programme accepted for grants under the Professional Development Incentive Grant Scheme for Language Teachers.

Admission Requirements

A student shall have attained in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination:
Programme Structure

The programme consists of 160 credits:
1. 120 credits of compulsory courses;
2. 20 credits of outside discipline courses; and
3. 20 credits of GE courses.
Students are reminded that within the 160 credits, not more than 40 credits of courses are to be taken at the foundation level.
Further Studies

Graduates of the programme may proceed to postgraduate studies in Hong Kong or overseas on humanities subjects such as Cultural Studies, Literary Studies, Museum Studies, Anthropology, Fine Arts and etc.
