Why School
Why School是最常见的附表文书题目类型，主要是为了展示你和学校的匹配程度，同学们也可以借此机会表达对这所学校的喜爱。例如以下为Boston University的文书题目：
“What about being a student at Boston University most excites you?”

Why Major
通过Why Major文书，招生官可以快速了解学生学术方面的背景以及未来的职业规划，例如UIUC：
“Explain your interest in the major you selected and describe how you have recently explored or developed this interest inside and/or outside the classroom. You may also explain how this major relates to your future career goals. If you're applying to the Division of General Studies, explain your academic interests and strengths or your future career goals. You may include any majors or areas of study you're currently considering.”

Why School + Why Major
由于学术水平是大多数学生选择学校的重要因素，很多大学会直接在文书题目中将Why School和Why major结合起来，如University of Michigan:
"Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate college or school (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?"

Activity
除了学术之外，大学想了解学生的业余爱好，这就产生了Activity类的题目。以下题目依旧来自University of Michigan:
"If you could only do one of the activities you have listed in the Activities section of your Common Application, which one would you keep doing? Why?"

Community
每个人都有自己的圈子，可能是由于地缘因素自然形成的，比如文化圈子，也可能是因为兴趣爱好集合在一起的，如学校的社团，圈子里的人会相互影响，处在一个圈子当中，你也不免带有该圈子的属性，这就是这类题目想要探究的。以下为University of Washington的题目：
“Our families and communities often define us and our individual worlds. Community might refer to your cultural group, extended family, religious group, neighborhood or school, sports team or club, co-workers, etc. Describe the world you come from and how you, as a product of it, might add to the diversity of the University of Washington.”
6.
Literature (less common)
一些比较文艺的学校会对学生的艺术偏好感兴趣，如Emory, UVa, Wake Forest等，以下题目来自Emory University：
“Which book, character, song, or piece of work (fiction or non-fiction) represents you, and why?”
