Study options in response to the coronavirus
Dear valued partners,
I am writing with an update on how UNSW Global is planning to help students affected by the Australian Government’s travel restrictions.
We are sorry for the disruption to the start of term caused by these unprecedented events and we are doing all we can to accommodate affected students by offering the following options:
1. Defer to the next intake without any financial penalty.
· 10 Week University English Entry Course and Essential English will start 16 March.
· 15 Week University English Entry Course will start 20 April.
· Essential Academic English will start 25 May.
While this may affect students longer term study plans, the UNSW trimester calendar means that we have more options to ensure minimal disruption.
We have advised students who would like to defer their studies, to speak with their agent or contact enquiries@unswglobal.unsw.edu.au.
2. UEEC 15 and EAE students can commence their program online.
Students enrolled in the 15 week University English Entry Course and Essential Academic English, have the option to commence their course online for the first two weeks. This program started yesterday but there is still time to enrol. Eligible students will have received information by phone and email. Students who need more help, please contact enquiries@unswglobal.unsw.edu.au.
The online courses are designed to provide quality preparation which will enable students to continue with their studies without delay or disadvantage. Detailed explanations regarding assessment and other course components are part of the course induction. Eligible students who have indicated that they would like to commence their program online have been provided with detailed information by email.
Once the students arrive on-campus we will put support measures in place, for example additional face-to-face hours, to ensure that they are on track for success.
After two weeks, UNSW Global will review the travel bans and decide whether to extend the course or transfer students’ enrolment to the next available intake, without financial penalty.
3. March intake - Foundation and Diploma programs.
For Foundation Studies and Diploma programs which are due to commence in late March, we expect that classes will go ahead as scheduled. Should travel restrictions be extended, we will communicate with you and your students about the options.
Additional information
This week, I will be leading a special video broadcast on the UNSW Global WeChat and Weibo accounts which will provide additional information and detailed answers to many of your questions.
The situation remains subject to change as the University responds to any revision to the Australian Government’s travel restrictions. Please rest assured that we are reviewing this situation and any change in options available will be communicated as soon as possible.
Please monitor the dedicated page on the UNSW website and our WeChat and Weibo accounts for updated information. We remind all students and staff that any official communications from the University will be sent from a UNSW or UNSW Global email, website or social media account.
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the entire UNSW community to express our solidarity with all students affected by this situation, and to please rest assured that we will continue to do everything we can to support you and your students.
