Reporting Verbs
在之前的一篇 《气死你老师的100种方式》中，我们曾经提到过：外部资源的使用是学术写作无比核心的特征。
在英文的学术写作中，当我们想要针对某个话题表达一些独特的理解和看法时，需要充分使用外部学术资源来让读者相信或认同我们的观点。并且为了学术严谨，避免存在抄袭剽窃的嫌疑，我们必须在文中和文末详细标注出资源的原出处（In-text citation & Reference list）。
所以当我们想表达某一作者观点时，其中一种表述方式就是：“谁” “说了” “什么”。
其中这个 “说了” 在学术写作中，我们把它叫做 Reporting Verbs。
通过使用Reporting Verbs，我们不仅可以评论别人的作品，也可以表述我们自己对于其他人作品的观点或情绪，如：同意、反对、或者中立。然而，为了更加准确地表达或解释作者的观点，我们需要使用一个正确并且合适的Reporting Verb来表述。
那么，对于Reporting Verbs，我们应该如何用相对学术的方式来表述呢？

01 用于形容做了什么事情
State – to indicate that the source presents something as a fact
Explain – to indicate the source gives details of how or why something happens
Argue – to indicate that the source presents a position on an issue
Point out – to indicate that the source presents something as a fact
Reject – to indicate that the source disagrees with a position
Discuss – to indicate the issue or topic that the source examines
Mention – to indicate that the source deals very briefly with an issue
Note – to indicate that the source deals very briefly with an issue
Evaluate – to indicate that the source makes a judgment regarding an issue
Conclude – to indicate the conclusion your source reaches
Suggest – to indicate the source thinks something is possibly true
Emphasize – to indicate the source’s most important point

Claim – to indicate that your source has stated something as a fact (and you may disagree)
Contend – to indicate that you disagree with your source’s position
Assume – to indicate that the source has treated something as a fact but you believe it is not
Reveal – to indicate that the information was previously hidden or not widely known
Allege – to indicate that a source makes a claim without proof
Imply – to indicate that the source says something indirectly
Exaggerate – to indicate that the source places too much emphasis on something
