哥伦比亚大学的TESOL设置在教育学院下面，该专业重视学生的教学理论、技巧、实践，教授的方向也更偏课堂教学、语言教育与习得，为学生的教学实践打下坚实的基础。
该项目全称：Master of Arts in TESOL, General Track (36 points)。这个36学分的项目大家可以在哥大官网上看到课程设置：General Courses有15个学分，Core Courses有9个学分，然后又12个学分的Elective Courses。

根据Core Courses的设置也不难看出，哥大对于课堂实践和教学技巧的偏重教育，21门选修课里面还可以根据自己感兴趣的方向继续选择4门课针对性的学习也体现了美国教育的自由性。
