美国室内设计专业通常开设在设计学院，建筑学院或者人文学院等，设置的学位有Master of Arts in Interior Design, Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design, Master of Interior Design, Master of Professional Studies in Special Track (e.g. Lighting Design, Sustainable Interior Environments，Health Care Design).
不同的学位，对于申请人的专业背景有不同要求：

Master of Professional Studies in Special Track学位，针对本科学位是室内设计申请人，时长1年。

Master of Arts 学位，一般是针对本科专业就是室内设计，建筑或者风景园林等专业的学生设置的。时长基本在2年。

Master of Fine Arts 学位，一般是针对本科专业非以上提及的申请人设置。时长基本在3年。（在部分设计学院，Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design提供给室内设计专业背景的人申请，时长2年。注意区分。）

当然，不是所有学校都会有这些专业小方向可供选择。在择校的时候可以去官网做具体了解。

我们先来看一下往年的录取数据
相对来说，申请人的本科专业限制并不严格，各种背景的申请人都可以申请室内设计。但对于录取结果来说，专业院校相对综合院校来说更有录取优势。
室内设计专业的研究生毕业后可从事室内设计师，家具设计师，灯光设计师，设备设施经理，房地产经纪人，展览设计师，产品代表等工作，也有部分开设自己的设计工作室等。
Interior Architecture alumni go on to find creatively satisfying work around the world. Some launch their own practices designing residential and/or commercial interiors, while others join larger established firms or smaller studios. In addition to practicing as interior architects, alumni also go on to make a mark professionally as sustainability specialists, set designers, educators, home furnishings designers and more.
根据美国劳工部门的数据统计，2020年的平均薪资为每年59170美金。
州政府中相应的职位和薪水如下：
1. S同学，入学年份 2018 fall，同济大学，GPA：3.4+， 托福100+. 录取罗德岛设计学院，纽约室内设计学院，俄勒冈大学，波士顿建筑学院等
2. Y同学，入学年份2019 fall，上海师范大学，GPA 2.8+。录取旧金山艺术大学，萨凡纳艺术设计学院等
3. Z同学，入学年份2019fall，布兰迪斯大学，商科专业，GPA: 3.5+, 免托福。录取 华盛顿州立大学，罗德岛设计学院，纽约室内设计学院，普拉特学院，芝加哥艺术学院等
从以上案例中我们不难看出，美国的室内设计专业对申请人的专业背景不限，并不局限于招本科是室内设计的学生，凡是具有环境设计、艺术设计方面的基础，或者学习过艺术设计的基础课程的学生都可以申请这类专业。学校看中的是实际的专业素质，也就是作品的质量。
