1. Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME)
是八大藤校中的combined baccalaureate-MD program，学制八年，前四年在本科the college （toward AB or ScB degree in the sciences, or toward an AB in the humanities, social sciences or behavioral sciences）就读，随后进入brown医学院就读四年。
要在Brown的网申系统中同时申请the college和the PLME。被the College和the PLME同时录才算是录取了。存在这样一种情况，申请ED, 被the College录了但没有被the PLME录。对于只想被the PLME录并不想仅仅在the College就读的申请者，学校建议他申请RD, 不要申ED。 PLME录取率在3%左右
2. Brown-RISD Dual Degree Program
Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)联合设立的5年制的双学位program
Candidates would complete approximately half of their course work at each institution and graduate with the A.B. degree（in the liberal arts）from Brown and the B.F.A. degree（in the fine arts）from RISD.
一半课程在brown，一半课程在RISD完成。
申请者要提交两个独立的申请（brown和RISD都使用common），并且要在两个application中写明要申请Dual Degree Program，同时被两个学校admit才是录取。大一新生才能申请。
Please note: Some concentration programs at Brown are not open to dual degree candidates, such as Engineering, Visual Arts, and the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME).

The open curriculum: In 1850, Brown's fourth president, Francis Wayland, argued that students should have greater freedom in pursuing a higher education, so that each would be able to "study what he chose, all that he chose, and nothing but what he chose." A century later, this vision became the basis for a new approach to general education at Brown: the open curriculum
自由课程：布朗大学所有课程，均让学生自主选择。与其他藤校（耶鲁大学的学生至少要拿够36门课的学分，并在四个学术领域要各选三门课；哥伦比亚的“核心教纲” 则对学生必修科目做出了非常严格的要求。其他名牌学府，或有必修课，或有课程分布规定）不同，brown没有核心课程的完成要求，要求是：所有学生必须在八个学期内在至少30门课拿到C以上的成绩，每个本科生必须完成至少一个专业的课程。
正面：学生将获得无与伦比的自由来塑造自己的教育，广泛学习、自我发展，可以更彻底地根据自己的兴趣和愿望来选择课程，有更多的时间探索个人的天赋和思考自己究竟想要什么。而不是为一大堆core疲于奔命。
负面：高昂的学费和自由的学习模式不相匹配，对于很多希望得到实际价值、获得未来职业生涯明确指导的学生来说，选择布朗大学是有风险的。
2. Brown有S/NC（satisfactory/no credit）制度（is intended to encourage academic risk taking），就是你可以让这门课最后出现在你成绩单上是只显示pass或fail, 而不是ABCD。
正面，一个学生在Brown完全可以自由地追求自己的兴趣，符合兴趣的好玩课程可以和枯燥刻板的“专业课”广泛并存在成绩单上。Since students can opt to take any course S/NC, they are more likely to venture outside of their comfort zones academically without fear of sullying their transcripts with a low grade. For example, a history concentrator may decide to take a competitive physics course S/NC or an economics concentrator might try art history without having to worry about grades.
负面：“混的”，“学渣”比较多，大概一个班得有接近20%的人在“混”，他们就是只要最后课pass了能拿到学分就行。校风散漫。
Most students view the S/NC system as a nice option but still take the majority of their courses for a grade. Very few students abuse the system.
3. 布朗大学为学生们提供良好周到的咨询服务，这套系统把一个学生跟一名教授、一个“同龄顾问”搭配起来。而学生宿舍的“住宅顾问”，也会在学生有需要的时候帮他一把。一位亚裔学生说：“我有一个亚裔顾问，一个女性同龄顾问，一个住宅顾问，一个少数族裔顾问及一个住在我宿舍同楼层的顾问组长。”
4. 在一些更加professional oriented的学校，校方组织的机会，比如说job panel，social activity会非常多。这些活动对于那些愿意stand out and perform的学生而言机不可失。他们被这些主动提供的机会“压迫”着参与其中，从而获得不断的充实感。Brown类似的机会并无太多。对于毕业之后急于找工作投身wall street或者industry的同学们来说，Brown并非一个好的选择。但是对于想利用本科四年好好学习打基础的人，这里是一个ideal choice。没有太多闲杂事务的烦扰，没有多余诱惑的考验，全身心地投入到学习和思考之中。
5. 作为常青藤最会玩的学校，brown每周都有party，而且到重大节日还会有全校性质的狂欢，所以如果你不喜欢party文化来布朗可是要小心了
