如何在申请者中脱颖而出
when it comes to applying to colleges in the United States, it's much more important to be able to show that you are an interesting, well-rounded individual, which is shown through a number of different ways rather than merely trying to demonstrate your capabilities based on your GPA or any kind of test scores.

So, I do want you to recognize that academics are just the beginning. Clearly, TOP universities will expect most serious applicants to be in a similar range with whatever they consider good test scores and grades and that's all available on their websites more or less. Generally, you do need to show that you do have the capabilities of doing well in school, but it's very important to understand that getting a perfect score or a perfect GPA is no guarantee of getting into a college, so think of it, in most cases, at competitive universities, every student scores A's and b's in their classes, and that information just simply is not enough for college admissions committee to distinguish one candidate from another, so they have to look deeper.

when we talk about fit, there are two sides of that coin so to speak, so one thing to consider is how a university might be a good match for your goals, interests, personality, and needs, and then on the flip side of that, how you as a student might be a good match for what a university might be looking for. When we talk about fit, I want to make it very clear to each and every one of you that there are thousands of colleges and universities in the United States, and that means that there are many options for you to be able to choose from that can be wonderful places for you, so do keep that in mind as we go through this process because I recognize it's really stressful to try to understand whether or not a school may be right for you, and the good news is that there are countless opportunities for you to choose from.

Now when we talk about fit, it is important for you to be able to get a feel of different universities and colleges, so you will have to do your own homework on doing a little bit of research into the places that you're looking at, try to understand how you might be a good match for the school, and you're usually able to at least get a feel for that by reading how the school describes itself and what it considers to be the most important benefits of what they can offer.
