申请美国加州系统的学生必须要知道的一件事！ 不看一定后悔！
每年加州的申请都能愁死一群家长和同学，原因无他，在中国教育的体制，美国教育的体制之外，相当一部分同学们突然发现加州又有个“A-G”要求，而且没满足这个要求二话不说直接被拒，加州全线上至Berkeley, UCLA, 下到家族里的小弟 Merced, Santa Cruz (2021年U.S. News 排名分别为93和103)，都坚守这条“底线”。 那么到底这个A-G有多重要，又是怎么去看学生有没有满足这个要求的呢，迟老师接下来这个系列就专门讲讲这个。当然，老师坚持中英文一起上，这样中文的翻译如果模糊，有歧义，英文的必然准确; 英文的说得不清不楚的地方，中文也会讲明白。两方面都让人看不懂的……… 欢迎来北京中关村新东方北楼6层咱们坐下来细聊。
A-G的要求到底有多重要，我说了不算，全球的各种大拿顾问说了也不算，包括之前申过加州被录了/被拒了的学长学姐的经验也不算，那什么算呢？ 官网算！
在UC的官网上，加粗大写的HOW APPLICATIONS ARE REVIEWED（我们如何审查简历）的这个专栏下，列了所有加州大学都会拿来用的评判学生水平的13条标准，其中头两条就是：
1. 你满足最基本的A-G课程，。
2. 基本课程要求外，加州要看你剩下的课有多少，有多难，你成绩咋样
那么关键的UC A-G课程的最低要求是什么呢？咱们看官网
录取最低要求：
A-G课程里最起码上满15门课，其中11门要在申请前上完出分
相信肯定有同学问了：“迟老师是不是必须上课才能满足这个要求啊？” 我很高兴你能问这个问题， 因为UC接下来就说了
上大学学分课或者考试出分也可以满足A-G的要求。
于是我们得出一个结论，满足这15门课的A-G的要求，咱们有3种方式： 上高中课，上大学学分课或者考试。
今天咱们来讲讲A-G当中相对好办的B）英语
加州大学认可的高中课程
四年的大学预备英语课程，包括频繁写作，从头脑风暴到期末论文，以及阅读古典和现代文学。ESL类型的课程也可以用来加州英语要求。

现在同学们记住ESL类型的课加一起最多满足1年的英语课程要求。
那么满足“B”要求的考试和课程有哪些呢？
AP或IB考试
AP英语语言和写作或英语文学和写作考试成绩3、4或5分;在IB HL英语考试中取得5、6或7分:文学考试(原IB HL英语A1)
大学课程
因为英语学习要4年，所以申请时必须有3年的相关课程才能符合要求。
UC认可的只有那些涉及英文写作，美国或英国文学鉴赏，以及外文翻译这样的大学学分课程。第四年的英语课必须是能转学分的AP课或IB课。
UC不认没有相当写作成分的文学课程
注意看原文同学的会看到，UC认可的大学学分课当中，学年制的课要不低于3个学分；学期制的课要不低于4个学分。关于季度制和学期制学校的区别，欢迎联系我，我给你慢慢讲。
有同学一定会问了，那不对啊迟老师，说好的国际生特别标准呢？ 别急别急，这就上。
在international applicant页下面写的：
对于国际生，加州的入学要求稍稍有点不同。如果你想要作为新生入学的话：
你需要上完15门高中课程，拿到不低于3.4的GPA：其中四年语言课，可以上母语课。对于国内学生来说，有4年中文就够了。
所以说，想上UC，满足它的语言课要求是很简单的,但英语水平要求就是另外一会事儿了，
UC系的英语语言要求体现了一个顶尖公立校的宽容
虽然UC是11月30号申请截止，但12月考的成绩都可以作数的。
以下这些考试当中任意一个达到相应的分数就会被认为达到英语水平达标。
l ACT英语语言艺术(ELA)成绩24分及以上
l SAT写作和语言成绩31分及以上
l AP英语语言与写作或英语文学与写作考试成绩3分及以上
l IB 语言A：英语 SL 考试6分及以上
l IB语言A：英语HL考试成绩5分及以上
l 雅思成绩6.5分及以上
l 雅思在家考成绩6.5分及以上(仅限2022年秋季)
l 托福网考或托福在家考:成绩80分及以上
l 托福纸质考试:60分及以上
l 多邻国英语考试(DET):115分及以上(仅限2022年秋季)
此处官网提醒我们：
1. UC不接受托福拼分且这些是最低要求。
2. 语言成绩好也能证明你学习能力强
部分UC系的学校会要求学生参与面试来检验大家的英语水平。
既然提到了语言成绩要求，咱们顺便说一下谁可以豁免。
加州官网明确表示：
l 在纯英语教学的高中上了完整4年高中的同学，不需要考这些试。
l 在9-12年级中，有不少于3年是纯英语教学的同学，不需要考这些试
没达到这些要求的同学，会需要上一个ESL课程或者参加ESL考试后才能正式入读加州大学
做个小总结
国内的同学：无论什么体系，你学了4年中文或者英语都可以满足B类课的要求。 托福上80未必能进UC系，托福不到80肯定是进不去的。
在国外上学的同学：你们的课程体系都会满足这个要求。至于能不能免托福，我强烈建议9-11年级不是都在纯英语条件下学习的同学去考一个托福。 多数的大学还是会让没满足这个条件的同学提交语言考试分的。

B) English
UC-approved high school courses
Four years of college-preparatory English that include frequent writing, from brainstorming to final paper, as well as reading of classic and modern literature. No more than one year of ESL-type courses can be used to meet this requirement.
Exams & coursework that satisfy "B"
SAT Subject Examination
Literature: Score of 560 satisfies the first three years of the requirement.
AP or IB Examination
Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition Exam; score of 5, 6 or 7 on the IB HL English: Literature exam (formerly IB HL English A1)
College courses
For each year required through the 11th grade, a grade of C or better in a non-transferable college course of 3 or more semester (4 or more quarter) units in English composition, literature (American or English) or foreign literature in translation. Courses used to satisfy the fourth year and/or the entire requirement must be transferable. For lower-division transfer, all courses must be transferable. Literature courses must include substantial work in composition.
Applying as a freshman?
If you’ve completed all your secondary school/high school in a country where English is not the language of instruction, you can demonstrate proficiency by taking one of these exams no later than December of your final year of high school/secondary school and earning the required scores:
Score 24 or higher for the ACT English Language Arts (ELA)
Score 31 or higher on Writing and Language in the SAT
Score 3, 4 or 5 on the AP examination in English Language and Composition, or English Literature and Composition
Score 6 or 7 on an IB Standard Level examination in English (Language A only)
Score 5, 6 or 7 on an IB Higher Level examination in English (Language A only)
Score 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Score 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Indicator (Fall 2022 only)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)* examination:
Internet-based test (iBT): Minimum score of 80 or better
iBT Home Edition: Minimum score of 80 or better
Paper-delivered test: Minimum score of 60 or better
Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 115 (Fall 2022 only)
*Note: UC does not accept MyBest TOEFL; only the highest composite score from a single sitting is allowed.
Keep in mind: A UC campus may require a score higher than the minimum for admission selection. And, some campuses may request an interview to determine English skills during the application review process.
What if I didn’t earn the grades/marks the campuses require for English proficiency?
Depending on the campuses you’re applying to, you may need to take an English as a Second Language (ESL) class or an exam.
Each campus is different, so make sure to contact the campus admissions office for more information.
