首先,关于时间安排,今年的竞赛与去年保持一致。具体而言,注册阶段将在4-5月间开放,正常的提交截止日期为6月底,而7月10日晚为晚期提交截止(晚期提交将额外收取20.00美元的费用)。预计在7月底,组委会将公布入围结果。值得注意的是,本次竞赛并未设置申请费用。
其次,今年的John Locke竞赛在选题上更加贴近现实,强调与当下热点的结合。参赛者可以明显感受到,从Gaza到人口增长等热门话题都被纳入了出题范围,而以往相对抽象的议题则有所减少。因此,建议参赛者密切关注世界热点的演变,以拓展更多的答题思路。
再者,今年的竞赛还呈现出明显的跨学科趋势。尽管题目仍然是按照学科进行分类的,但部分题目已经展现出跨学科的特点。例如,历史类目的第一题关于工业革命前世界GDP增长率为0.01%的原因,这一问题就涉及了历史学家和经济学家的共同关注。因此,参赛者在准备过程中需要注重知识的深度和广度的平衡。
关于参赛资格,本次竞赛面向全球所有国家18岁及以下的学生开放。高年级组的参赛者需在2024年6月30日前年满18岁及以下,而低年级组的参赛者则需在同年6月30日前年满15岁及以下。
在论文要求方面,每个学生只能报名参加每个类别中的一个题目,但可以选择参加多个类别。提交的论文长度应不超过2000字(不包括图表、数据表、脚注、参考书目或作者声明)。
此外,今年的竞赛还设置了以下两个论文题目供学生选择:
