电气工程是研究生的热门专业，基本上US-News综合排名前200的学校都会开设该专业，世界名校麻省理工、加州理工等均设有该专业。由于良好的就业前景，电气工程一直占据理工科申请人数的头把交椅。

电气工程的就业不管是在美国还是国内都相当不错，在美国这样工业发达的国家，EE专业的毕业生能够得到的职位和薪资非常可观的，目前美国各类电气和计算机工程师供不应求，尤其是计算机工程师，大概的起薪区间在7万到8万5美元之间，职业中期差不多可以达到12万到14万美金左右。
