4. Research experience

应该用倒叙的形式，不可少的内容有：your title, department, university, city, state and dates (years only). 

同时在describe activities我们需要使用 specific action verbs. 当然，如果在 describing your dissertation, 我们还需要包括 a brief overview of impact. 其他的 research projects, 是需要重点放在自己的 accomplishments. 同时，教授都会关注一部分research topics，看你是否了解（一般会结合教授自己的研究兴趣）

除了相关研究方向，也要侧重于写一下研究单位。记得我的学生小何和Case Western Reserve的教授面试时，教授看到他CV中有关CWR的一段实习经历，特意留意了小何。告诉学生，他去年6月到过小何的学校，和小何学校数学院的一个老师在做一个合作项目，那里还有人现在在他那里做博士后。小何去年是见到过学校网站上有CASE的老师来学校访问了，这让老师很激动的说，Yes, that's me! 老师接着说，小何肯定会被ADMITTED，但是他们在考虑AID，大概要一周才能出来。问小何有哪些OFFER了，我回答之。老师说如果有学校催我回答或者拿到其他OFFER之类的progress，都通知下他，他可以努力加快点。

5. Publications

需要按照文献引用格式，国内的出版物统一 使用GB7714标准（GB表示“国标”的意思，过去是GB7714-87，是87年出的强制标准；谷歌里自动生成的是按GB/T 7714-2005，是2005推荐标准，T表示“推”）；而国外杂志有具体要求，一般按照MLA（Modern Language Association）、APA（American Psychological Association） 等规范著录。

此外，一定要注明是第几作者（authored or co-authored.）并且表明这个文章是用中文还是英文写的。我的学生John发表过4篇论文，但其中有一篇关于MRI的文章是用中文写的，但申请时简历中他并没有标明。最后结果是，一个做MRI的教授本来很看好他，邀请他面试，面试中提问了很多关于MRI的专业问题，由于John对英文术语的陌生，使得面试过程很不顺利，最后教授开始怀疑John的研究的真实性！！

当然，也接受还没有被检索的文章，写为"as submitted" or "in preparation”。 不过前提是你已经出版过其他文章了。

6. Patents

专利是工科学生的强项。尤其是现在新型实用专利在大学中比较好申请，所以很多学生以此来突出自己的特长。与publication的要求相同。现在中国的专利也都可以在google scholar上搜索到，在CV中加上一个超链接，不失为一个好方法。

这一部分需要根据自己的实际情况来写。可以写入的内容包括：

有心的同学可能会注意到，这样分类怎么没地方写托福和GRE/GMAT成绩呢？Standardized Test是我们网申时必填的一项内容，除非成绩特别突出，否则不需要再浪费地方重写一次了。

(三) Organize those according to your strengths.

这位同学有着很强的研究背景，才20岁的他已经发表了4篇论文。但是由于他整天泡在实验室，课业成绩并不突出，所以获得的奖项（只有大一获得的一项）。所以我们将publication重点放在CV的前面，舍去了"Honors and Awards" section 而将其补充在了education的子项中。
