第一次听说这位同学，是跟我上届学生的妈妈闲聊中得知的，孩子在校成绩特别优秀，高一就保送了清华，最厉害的是获得过各类国家级国际型竞赛大奖，我们调侃说这样的孩子真应该送出国好好深造。没想到在10月份，这位同学在清华认识的教授劝他试着申请美国顶尖大学，也许将来会有更好的发展，全家人立马心动了，于是10月底顾妈妈找到了我，到新东方了解留学的相关事宜。

由于时间真的非常紧张，11月所有牛校的EAED都已经截止，这位同学对托福SAT考试又知之甚少，所以我们都替他捏把汗，12月参加了第一次也是唯一一次SAT1的考试，第二年1月参加了SAT2的考试，这位同学自身学习能力非常强，我安排了新东方的几位老师做了几次考前答疑辅导，这位同学就在短短时间内考出了还不错的成绩。值得一提的是，这位同学在一边学习一边准备文书的同时，写作能力有了很大提高，托福写作考出了29分的好成绩。

这位同学申请最大的亮点就在于学生本身有很强的学术背景，特别是计算机以及数学方面的造诣，在全国中学生当中屈指可数，而且能在短短时间内考出sat成绩实属不易，在申请过程中尽可能的弱化标准化成绩，着重突出孩子理科计算机方面过人的天赋以及极强的学习能力。这位同学在完成RD的申请后，依然致力于参加各类竞赛活动，当接到麻省理工大学的面试通知时，他正在某大学做演讲。持续的学习热情终于获得了麻省理工大学的青睐。

这位同学由于家庭原因，所有学校都申请了高额助学金。申请用的资金担保是这位同学曾经参加某竞赛时获得的奖金，其余费用全部由学校承担。现在成功申请到MIT的全奖录取，这位同学可以骄傲的让父母不再担心学费的问题，顺利完成在美国的学业。

我很庆幸今年遇到这样一位天才学生，我们都为之骄傲。最优秀的学生就应该送去最牛的学校，老师再辛苦都值得！

Gu’s application process was a little rushed because he spent his summer competing in international programming competitions. By the time he came back, ED deadlines had already passed but he didn’t even have a TOEFL score. The various first prizes and gold medals he won over the summer definitely helped his applications but we were concerned about the time limit we faced; the only comfort was that he already had a backup school (Tsinghua University) so we only needed to apply to a few schools.

I soon realized I had nothing to worry about. Gu worked very diligently and efficiently on his computer (no doubt the fruits of his efforts in programming) and produced excellent drafts every day. He already had plenty of experiences to draw from so all we needed to do was organize his accomplishments in a way that was easy to read. His first drafts were a little too direct and dry but after just a few comments Gu’s essays quickly focused on the most important and most interesting stories he had to share. Gu’s ability to absorb direction and immediately apply it to his work is a rare gift, eventually allowing us to submit all of his applications with a few days to spare! My favorite thing about Gu is that he still constantly pushes himself. As soon as we finished his applications, he immediately went back to participate in more programming competitions.
