Notes：
not only…but also…“不仅，而且”，注意not only和but also后面所接的语法成分要一致。
acquired through community service是分次结果做后置定语，修饰hands-on experience，相当于定语从句that are acquired through community service。
service作“服务”是不可数名词，作“公共事业”是可数名词，比如：public services。
2.stand out from the masses of other applicants
在一群候选者中脱颖而出
e.g. If university students make te most of the college life and gain extra experience, they are more likely to stand out from the masses of other applicants after graduation.
如果大学生充分利用大学生活，积累更多经验，毕业后，他们很可能在一群应聘者中脱颖而出。
Notes：
注意词组make the most of sth.充分利用。
be more likely to do sth.很可能做某事。
mass of表示“大量，许多”，相当于a considerable number of。
3.find oneself stand in an unemployment line
找不到工作；面临失业
e.g. In recent years, a considerable number of graduates find themselves stand in an unemployment line or end up working in positions unrelated to their specialty.
近几年来，很多毕业生都找不到工作，或者只能找到与专业无关的工作。
Notes：
注意词组：a considerable number of很多，后接可数名词复数。
end up doing sth. 表示“最后处于……”。
找工作：work in positions = find jobs / employment。
4.improve one's physical conditions
促进身体健康
e.g. Engaging in physical activities can improve students’ physical conditions as well as boosting their confidence.
参加体育活动可以促进学生身体健康，还可以增强自信。
Notes：
注意搭配：boost one's confidence增强某人自信。
as well as后接动词，通常是v.-ing形式。
