爱达荷州立大学简介
爱达荷州立大学创建于1901年,是一所公立大学,目前共有近学生13000名,其中本科生超过1万人。国际学生不到400名,中国学生更是少之又少。
爱达荷州立大学是爱达荷州最好的大学,《纽约时报大学指南》选它为全美三百所最好大学之一,并且给予三颗星的甚佳学术评价,而《美国新闻与世界报道》则评为四级国家级大学,全美排名在200名以内(第193)。
爱达荷州立大学拥有七个学院,分别是:科学及艺术学院、商学院、教育学院、理工学院、健康学院、药学院,应用科技学院。此外,爱达荷州立大学还设有爱达荷自然历史博物馆,爱达荷商业与研究所,爱达荷加速器中心等学术机构。爱达荷州立大学拥有电脑中心、学生辅导中心和社团中心。该校拥有全美大学校园中最大的攀岩墙、体育馆、运动场等。校园内的爱达荷自然历史博物馆拥有许多的考古展览品。图书馆的馆藏民相当丰富,图书杂志与期刊齐全,可以充分使用网路查询资料。

学校环境
爱达荷州立大学位于爱达荷州东南部洛基山附近的波卡特洛(Pocatello)市,在亚美利坎瀑布(American)附近。建于1882年,1893年建市,是铁路、公路交通枢纽,斯内克河流域物资集散地。这里空气清新,周围自然环境十分瑰丽动人,戶外活动的选择种类繁多,例如:攀岩、钓鱼、徒步旅行、滑雪、骑自行车、划船、露营、登山等。喜欢户外活动的同学,周末假期不愁没有好去处。
波卡特洛市民风淳朴,生活便利。该市人口不到5万人,有历史较久的铁路修理工厂、食品加工、水泥、化肥等工业。在市北郊和西郊有印第安人保留地。
爱达荷州气候四季分明,非常干燥。该州拥有19座国家或州立公园及15处森林公园,爱达荷州立大学离世界著名的黃石公园及太阳谷SunValley只有3小時车程。爱达荷州为美国第十三大州, 人力素质高(全美第六)、工资低、电力低廉、交通便捷、资源丰富、税赋合理、土地成本低、犯罪率低、生活环境佳、消费指数低。
爱达荷州的主要产业是农业,但高科技如半导体产业及营建机具等发展很快。美光半导体公司(Micron)、惠普科技(HP)、Zailog及AMI等公司都是在爱达荷州有相当规模的生产制造工厂,使爱达荷州成为一个高科技的发展中心。北部以林业及矿业为主,近几年来,软件工业亦是十分蓬勃发展。州都树城及东南部的大城Idaho Falls是环保科技公司落脚的两个主要城市。此外,美国能源部亦在Idaho Falls设有科技能源研究中心(INEL), 该中心是新科技,技术产生的摇篮,亦是爱达荷州经济发展的重要地区。
观光旅游业亦是爱达荷州重要的收入来源,位于锯齿山脉(Sawtooth Mountain)中心的太阳谷(Sun Valley)是世界知名的滑雪胜地,亦是美国巨星名流渡假、居住的优先选择。爱州州内国家及州立公园提供了不同景观特点的风光及游憩活动。独木舟活动在鲑鱼河(Salmon River)十分受到欢迎,而北部的多蓝湖及附近的滑雪场,都是爱州北部不可错过的地方。
