AbouttheProject
TraditionalpastoralgrazingsystemsinNewZealandareunderincreasingscrutinyregardingtheirpotentialinfluenceontheenvironment.RegenerativeAgriculturesystemsarepromotedasapotentialsolution.Inaddition,diverseswardmixescontainingmorethan10specieshavebeensuggestedasamanagementsolutiontoreduceenvironmentalfootprintandimproveanimalproductivity.Toscientificallyevaluatetheseopportunities,along-termdairyandsheepfarmletstudyisunderwayatMasseyUniversity,PalmerstonNorth,NewZealand.Itinvolvesthreetreatmentgroupsincluding:i)perennialryegrass/whitecloverswardunderconventionalmanagement;ii)adiversepastureswardunderregenerativemanagement;andiii)adiversepastureswardunderconventionalmanagement.Thisthree-yearPhDprogrammewillexamineaspectsofsoilphosphorusavailabilityandplantuptakeunderthedifferenttreatmentsandwillexplorekeyplant,microbialandsoilfactorinfluencesonphosphorusavailability.Studentswillbeworkinginalargeteamofmulti-disciplinaryscientists,techniciansandotherpostgraduatestudentstoundertaketheirresearch.
ThePhDprogrammeincludesanannualstipendofNZ$30,000inadditiontocoveringstudentfees.TheprogrammeissuitedforacandidatewithanHonoursorMastersqualificationinSoilScienceorrelateddisciplines.TheaimistohavethesuccessfulcandidateonsitebyJune2023.
