商业分析师统计学知识在企业实践中的具体应用，两者的基础知识是相同的，都需要对于数据的熟悉，敏感度，以及处理数据，建模分析的能力。不过商业分析范围比统计学要窄，也更加细致，它更多的服务于企业战略决策，统计学不过是它的必不可少的手段。除了统计学知识外，商业分析还需要掌握大量的金融学，计算机科学和企业管理方面的知识。
总体来说，Business Analytics是一个交叉学科，包括了数学（统计），计算机和商学（经济学，市场营销，博弈论等）。统计学的方法占据了数据分析类学科的首要地位；在计算机领域内，主要运用的是机器学习，模式识别，图像处理，数据建模等；最后回归商业模式之中，处理现实问题。
