　　从Google图片到Instagram，从自拍到虚拟游戏，视觉图像在数量上出现大爆炸，视觉媒体（也称为视觉文化）已然成为全球日常生活、商业和政治必不可少的一部分。同样的影像经过不同方式诠释，能让人接收到不同的“真相”，这些“真相”所建构的即是我们知道的世界。与此同时，针对视觉媒体的研究不断增多，电影历史和摄影创新方法逐渐为融社交媒体和新媒体学习采纳。

　　项目中重点引用美国、欧洲实例进行教学，涵盖如何观察世界，视觉媒体与战争，人类活动对自然世界的影响（水污染、动物灭绝）等课题。学生将了解不同形式的视觉媒体并进行对比分析，结合历史背景了解媒体在社会生活中不可分割的角色构成。项目将为学生进一步进行媒体和社会科学研究奠定坚实基础，并为日常生活中的视觉媒体解读提供有效工具。

　　Nicholas is a visual activist, working at the intersection of politics and global/digital visual culture. In 2017 his book The Appearance of Black Lives Matter was published as a free e-book by NAME Publications and then in 2018 it came out as a limited edition hard-cover with a graphic essay by Carl Pope and a poem by Karen Pope (sold out).

　　Often invited to speak nationally and internationally, in 2019 he is the Astor Visiting Lecturer at Oxford University. His book How To See The World was published by Pelican in the UK (2015) and by Basic Books in the US (2016). It has been translated into ten languages and was a New Scientist Top Ten Book of the Year for 2015. Nicholas is considered one of the founders of the academic discipline of visual culture in books like An Introduction to Visual Culture (1999/2009) and The Visual Culture Reader (1998/2002/2012).

　　From 2013-17, he was Visiting Professor of Visual Culture at Middlesex University, London. A frequent blogger and writer, his work has appeared in The Nation, Hyperallergic, the New York Times, the Guardian, Time and The New Republic.

　　Nicholas现任纽约大学媒体、文化与传播专业教授，视觉文化学科创建者之一。著有《视觉文化导论》（An Introduction to Visual Culture）、《视觉文化读本》（The Visual Culture Reader）、《观看的权利：视觉性的反历史》（The Right to Look: A Counterhistory of Visuality）等。其中《观看的权利：视觉性的反历史》获得电影与媒体研究协会颁发Anne Friedberg创新学术成就奖，现已被翻译成包括中文在内的十种语言。
