Introduction
My name is Alice, I am from Vietnam. I have been in CATS for three years and I’m going to Washington University in St. Louis.
What Ivy League colleges did you apply to?
I applied to Brown University, Columbia University and Yale University. The general process was similar to other schools that I applied to. They were a little longer because I have to write more essays and more supplemental materials for those schools.
Tell us about your interview at Brown University
A graduate from law school interviewed me, she is now a lawyer. She asked me a mix of sort of personal questions and more intellectual questions. She asked me about saying what activities I were involved in and what my interests were. She also asked me to see how I see myself. She then asked me saying what I thought were my weaknesses and my strengths and how I could improve, how to contribute to the school.
Tell us about your interview at Yale University
For Yale University, the person who interviewed me was a music major and he is a conductor at Orchestra, so pretty successful in the music business and he interviewed me about mostly see how I think. He did not ask many personal questions, he asked if I was given a sort of problems, what I would do. If I was given this moral dilemma, what I would think is the best solution. So it’s more about the way you think as opposed to what you did or what your essay was about, it’s all containing your application ready.
What was the best part of the Ivy League interview experience?
I think the best part about interviews was that it was very informal and the interviews were friendly and understanding. It might be stressful for me, so they did not make it harder for me. They were very understanding and the questions were also very interesting for my Yale University interviewer. Specifically, he asked very thought-provoking questions that make me think and I think was a very good way to get to know me.
Do you have any advice for other students?
For interviews, you shouldn’t be too stressed about it. It’s just a matter of like informal talk conversational. It’s not going to be a very big part of your application as long as you’re confident and you are clear intercalate in your thoughts and ideas, then you should be good to go.
