美国商业分析(BA)专业解析

商业分析(Buisness Analytics,简称BA)是最近几年兴起的一个热门留学专业,主要是以商业知识为基础,数理编程为手段,从数据分析出发,以决策优化来创造价值的新兴专业。很多同学会将这个新兴的BA专业与以往的商业分析(Business Analysis)混淆,虽然只有几个字母不同,但两个专业差别较大。


Business Analysis VS Business Analytics

Business Analysis属于传统商科,一般设在MBA下面,主要是分析整个公司的运营流程、开展的业务等方面,偏向于案例分析,以简单的数据分析为辅助。

 

Business Analytics则是一门新兴学科,核心是数据挖掘和数据分析,与现在的互联网及大数据(Big Data)相联,主要是利用高深的技术、模型和算法进行数据挖掘和商业分析,服务的公司都是像IBMGoogle、百度、腾讯、阿里这样的互联网公司。

 专业及课程设置

目前美国大约有30所学校开设了Business Analytics这个专业。从专业名称来看,大部分学校都是叫Business Analytics,有些直接叫Analytics,还有些叫Predictive Analytics。从设置的院系来看,这个专业多数设置在商学院下,如UT Austin, Rochester, MSU, GWU等,有些设置在工程学院下,如Northwestern,也有设置在信息学院下的,如CMU。一般设置在工程学院及信息学院下的项目,对数学背景和计算机背景要求都很高。

 

BA硕士绝大多数都是以就业为导向的,从贴合就业实际的Big Data--analytical work 角度来培养学生。课程也以实用唯多,基本是以 MIS(小的但是实用的编程(vba+sql),一些database 的知识等)+STAT(教你用统计软件/帮统计软件编程来自动分析等)+一些management 的知识。因此,大部分学校的课程上都会有 Data Analysis ProgrammingData Analytics OptimizationProbability and StatisticsCalculusWeb Analytics 等等,相对的,在招生喜好方面,学校也表示鼓励数学、计算机、工程等背景的学生申请。




就业方向

BA的就业方向主要是当数据分析师和程序设计师。在不同行业中专门从事行业数据搜集、整理、分析,并依据数据做出行业研究、评估和预测。虽然这是一个较新的专业,但却有很好的就业前景。在大数据时代,很多行业都需要擅长挖掘和分析数据的人,例如IT、互联网、游戏、通信、金融、医药、咨询、零售等,因此BA的毕业生都比较抢手,而且薪资水平也较高。 

院校推荐纽约大学(NYU

NYU2013年就在Stern商学院开设了MS in Business Analytics,相对于其他学校来说开设时间比较早。这个项目时长1年,要求申请者必须有至少5年的全职工作经验,最好还有一定的管理经验,具备较高的定量分析能力。以往录取的学生多来自快消、能源、金融、医疗、工业、科技、咨询和NGO等行业。

南加州大学(USC

USCBA硕士2014年才开设,虽然较为年轻但却已经在2016TFE美国商业分析硕士排名中已位列第一了。学制三学期共18个月,设在商学院,每年招收24个学生左右,属于STEM,有29个月的OPT。申请者最好有一定的工作经验,但不强制要求,如果没有的话,可能会是申请者的一个短处。。南加州大学因为地处洛杉矶,地理位置非常,再加上综排专排都非常不错,吸引了大批中国学生申请,竞争很激烈。想入读该校的BA项目,建议早点准备。

罗彻斯特大学(Rochester

RochesterBA专业设在著名的西蒙商学院,分为两种,一种11个月不带实习,一种17个月带实习。这个项目要求申请者拥有经济学或数学背景,去年录取的学生主要来自商科、经济、工程、数学与理学以及人文等专业。这个项目不强制要求全职工作经验,但去年录取的学生平均工作经验为1.4年。Rochester一般会这位学生提供Merit-based奖学金,自动随Offer发放,无需单独申请。

德州奥斯汀分校(UT-Austin

UT-AustinBA可以排在前十,设在商学院信息、风险和运营管理系下面。项目时长为1年,每年招收60人左右,只接受夏季入学。这个项目要求学生有商科理工科背景,最好先修过代数、统计和概率论。该项目还与很多大企业有合作,比如沃尔玛和德勤,很多学生毕业之后都有机会直接进入这些合作的企业。

伦斯勒理工学院(RPI

伦斯勒理工学院是美国第一所理工学院,作为理工强校,BA专业也是一流。RPIBA专业设在商学院,学制1,不要求学生有工作经验,应届本科毕业生可直接申请。提供Merit-based奖学金(Scholarship),该奖学金无需申请,自动随Offer发放。

亚利桑那州立大学

亚利桑那州州立大学的BA项目设在商学院,提供全日制校园授课和远程教育授课两种形式,学制分别为9个月和16个月。全日制BA项目要求申请者拥有很强的数学和分析能力。被录取的学生来自商科、经济学、工程、社会科学、理科/数学等专业,平均拥有1.9年的工作经验。

另外卡耐基梅隆(CMU)、麻省理工(MIT)等名校也开设了Business Analytics专业。CMUBA项目开在信息管理学院下面,名称为Business Intelligence and Data Analytics。该项目时长为16个月,申请者必须有3年以上的工作经验,所有被录取的学生在开学之前,都要完成一门编程基础课。MITBA今年刚刚开设,具体录取情况还不清楚,但学费非常贵,一年75,000美刀,有兴趣的同学可以关注一下。
