Our staff are all looking forward to working with you on your Masters degree beginning in September. A date for your diary is Monday, 30 September which is when our MA Induction Week starts.
As a way of preparing for the course, we are recommending that you start reading texts that will be used in Module 1. To start with, we recommend you read:
'Introduction to Education Studies' by Steve Bartlett and Diana Burton.
This is published by Sage Publishing – please see the attached flyer. If you don't want to, or can't, purchase this book at this stage, there are many free online resources related to the book available on the publisher's website. You may not be able to access the articles but you can definitely access the videos. In addition, don't forget to follow the 'Study Skills' link which will take you to more free online resources relating to studying at the university.
If you have the time, and the enthusiasm, in addition to the Bartlett and Burton title, you could have a look at the following:
1. The Routledge Companion to Education edited by James Arthur and Andrew Peterson
2. Education and the Struggle for Democracy: The Politics of Educational Ideas by Wilfred Carr.
3. Education and Philosophy: An Introduction by Ansgar Allen and Roy Goddard
These titles will certainly help you when it comes to some of the ideas encountered on our first module, Critical Issues in Education and Educational Research.
