    英国邓迪大学疫情最新信息更新

    2020-03-30

We hope that you are keeping well and that you are managing to find some routine amongst what has been a very uncertain time. As an International Office we wanted to reach out to you to let you know that we are thinking of you and your families, and that we are here to support you in any way we can.

We are sure that, like us, you have experienced changes to your usual working and that your focus is now on ensuring students continue to receive the teaching and counselling that they deserve. We hope that this email provides you with some of the key information you need, but we encourage you more than ever to reach out to us should you have any questions, updates or concerns. Should you need a reminder, our International Office contacts are available here and your dedicated regional staff will be more than happy to help. We also have a dedicated webpagewhich is updated regularly, so please refer to this for the most up-to-date information.

We are sure that in the coming weeks we will want to touch base further to look at how we can continue to work together virtually, however we also understand that this has been a disruptive time for us all. With that in mind, please take the time and space you need to settle into this new way of working but know that we remain committed to providing a service to all of our applicants – whether that be via Skype interviews, webinars or email communications, we can tailor this to suit your needs.

For now, we hope you find the information below useful, but please do contact us with any queries.

    Applicant Information

    School Leaver Exams

We are aware of different measures in place in different countries and are continually adapting our admissions policy in line with these changes. Please also check UCAS Trackand the UCAS coronavirus page for updates.

We understand that these are challenging times for all our applicants, and that your grades may be impacted as a result. Please be assured that we are taking this into consideration when assessing applications and offering additional flexibility in light of the disruption caused by coronavirus.

    Exam Cancellations

If examinations have been cancelled and applicants will instead be awarded calculated grades from a recognised examination board, then we will accept these as having equal validity to grades awarded in other years. This includes those taking International Baccalaureate and Cambridge A Levels.

    Exam Delays

If examinations are delayed, we will offer additional flexibility with the start date of our programmes where possible and are increasing the number of programmes with a January start.

    Pre-Sessional English programmes

Like many other universities across the world, the University of Dundee has suspended teaching on-campus during this coronavirus pandemic. We are pleased to inform you that we will now be teaching our Pre-Sessional English courses online. To ensure that students are given enough teaching time and language support to achieve the grades they need, any students previously offered the 11 week on-campus Pre-Sessional English course will now be given an offer for the 14 weeks Pre-Sessional English course online. We have also changed the start date to ensure that students have enough time to get their Tier 4 (Student) visa to join their main degree in September. To reflect the fact that students are learning online rather than in the classroom, the tuition fee for this programme has been reduced to £2200.

We will also offer all our online students intensive English language support, if they wish/require it, when they do arrive on campus, with options including classes during Welcome Week and in-sessional English support during their studies.

    English Language Requirements

For September 20/21 entry we will accept a wide range of English language qualifications, including IELTS for UKVI (Academic), IELTS (Academic), Pearsons (PTE Academic), Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) and TOEFL iBT. You can see our full list here.

As the Pre-Sessional English programme will be online we are also able to accept these qualifications for it.

    Interviews

Any remaining face-to-face selection activities such as interviews will now take place online. Further details will be sent to affected applicants.

Deferring to a later start date

We already offer flexibility with our Semester start dates and will continue to do this. If your students wish to defer their entry to a later intake, this will also be possible. A number of our programmes now have January and September intakes. Please check our website for details.

    University examinations

Whilst we do require students to have completed their undergraduate degree in order to meet the conditions of any postgraduate offer, we will now accept their transcripts and an official university letter confirming that they have completed their degree in lieu of a final degree certificate if this is likely to be delayed.

    Scholarships

Students who have been awarded our Global Excellence Scholarship and wish to defer will still be awarded their scholarship which will then commence upon their delayed start date.

The International Office continues to do online interviews for our Global Citizenship Scholarship. If you have applicants who can demonstrate the UoD values of : Valuing People; Working Together; Integrity; Making a Difference; Excellence, you can refer them for a scholarship interview by emailing contactus@dundee.ac.uk with subject line GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP. In the email below include the following applicant details: full name, applicant ID, date of birth, course applied for.

    Online Events

We are hosting lots of online events for our applicants to give them the chance to virtually tour the campus, meet academic staff and current students and find out about our excellent facilities. Check out our schedule for more details.

    Turnaround Times

Our Admissions team is working hard to continue processing application decisions as quickly as possible. However the Team is working remotely which is leading to some delays. If you have an urgent application, please let a member of the International Office know.

    PhD Applications

We have now decided to coordinate the enrolment of our most of our new research students into a cohort. This means that most PhD applicants who have an expected start date from now until 31 August 2020 will now start their research programme on 14 September 2020 (subject to factors outside our control and supervisor availability). Affected applicants will receive an email explaining these changes. There may be a few exceptions to this, and in those cases supervisors will contact affected applicants directly.

    Information For Current Students

Further information relevant to current University of Dundee students can also be found here. Some key points are:

    • All face-to-face teaching on campus has been suspended until further notice and online teaching has resumed in its place.
    • All exams and assessments will be moved online or alternative arrangements will be made.
    • This summer’s June Graduation ceremonies have been postponed. However, final year students will still be awarded degrees in June.
    • Most campus facilities are now closed, including the Main Library, Institute of Sports and Exercise (ISE) and our students’ union, DUSA. Students can still access e-resources through our Library website.
    •  All students, whether they are still in Dundee or have chosen to return home, are being supported by their academic School and Student Services.
    • University of Dundee staff are now working from home and continue their work to teach and support current students remotely.

Life in Dundee and the UK

The announcements from the UK and Scottish Governments on Monday 23 March moved the UK into a state that is close to lockdown.

The only reasons individuals should now leave their home are as follows:

    • Shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
    • One form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of their household
    • Any medical need, to provide care, or to help a vulnerable person
    • Travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home
    • Public transport services have been reduced across the UK.

In the city of Dundee, supermarkets and pharmacies are open and will remain open. The supermarkets and pharmacies have most products, but some items, such as toilet roll and hand sanitiser, are currently in short supply. There are no food shortages.

This is, of course, a rapidly-evolving situation. We will continue to re-evaluate our policies in response to government advice and the safety and wellbeing of our students continues to be at the forefront of everything that we do.

    Stay safe and keep well,

Your International Office friends and colleagues at the University of Dundee.
