    Case Analysis

     

    Student A received 1st place in an international competition held in Pittsburg, USA. He partnered with another student to design a new product to improve elevator safety. This competition required students to be creative and think outside the box. His experience abroad helped him understand the importance of extracurricular activities and soft skills.

     

    Student A attended Duke University twice focusing on psychology, not his intended major (Economics). There is a connection between psychology and economics, so Student A created a list of connections and identified the strongest link. During his second visit to Duke University, he also participated in a research study. He sought out extra opportunities to learn about the subject that interests him.

     

    Student A participated in multiple business simulations and was also part of a team that held their own competition. Through this experience, Student A experienced problems that forced him to think critically.

     

    Lastly, Student A took a different approach for the short (150 words) Emory supplement prompts. He wanted to highlight his interest of anime, so he thought about which anime character best fits his own unique personality.

    同学是个乐观、积极主动的学生,做事情非常专注,有明确的目标,沟通能力强,善于利用有效的资源。从我们刚刚开始接触,他就非常喜欢杜克大学,做了很多学校的调研工作,最终确定杜克就是自己的梦校,并且为了自己的目标一直在努力。在最初定校阶段,我也给过孩子其他院校的建议,但是在充分的沟通和多方考虑下,还是决定尊重孩子的意愿,一起努力放手博一下,把杜克定为ED1的目标。虽然最终我们没有拿到杜克的录取,但早申请的结果让孩子对整体形势有了新的认识,接受了我的选校建议,一举在ED2拿到了Emory的录取。
