英国留学:格拉斯哥大学关于最近疫情的回应
We hope this email finds you well.
You may already be aware that there have been confirmed cases of coronavirus among the student bodies across UK universities, and unfortunately this includes some of our own students living in Murano Street and Cairncross student residences. You may already have questions around this, and be receiving concerned enquiries from students or parents. Please be assured that the University is taking this matter very seriously, and doing everything it can to contain the spread, and to look after the students impacted.
At the time of writing 600 students have been required to self-isolate in accordance with government guidelines. No students have been hospitalised. Students who are self-isolating are being looked after by University staff who are visiting on a daily basis. Help to buy food is available, and students of course have access to the internet to communicate with their family and friends, and to continue their studies remotely. Students have been provided with advice on their physical and mental health, and online social activities will take place to ensure they don’t feel mentally isolated. Students who require additional assistance can access this through our Student Support Services
The University are working closely with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to manage the outbreak. Environmental Health have visited the residences and confirmed the University has robust measures in place to deal with the outbreak. A mobile testing unit has been on site today, testing students who they believe may have been exposed to the virus. All students who need a test have access to one.
We believe the outbreak has arisen as a result of unofficial social events taking place in the residences. The majority of our students are abiding by the social distancing guidelines and avoiding socialising outside their households. For the small minority which have not, the University has made it clear that it will not tolerate behaviour which puts others at risks and is considering disciplinary action where appropriate, which may include termination of student accommodation contracts and suspension from the University.
Following news of the outbreak university Principals in Scotland have met with the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education & Science to discuss further measures to prevent the spread of the virus and have decided on a package of additional actions which build upon the clear guidance already in place to support students and staff adhere to the rules and stay safe. This will include enhanced messages around parties and socialising outside households; increased staff presence in student accommodation; further engagement with private accommodation providers; intensified liaison with Police Scotland; compulsory downloading of the Protect Scotland app for all students; and a strict approach to breaches of discipline. Universities will work closely with student associations to take these actions forward.
Please be assured that the University of Glasgow places the health and well-being of our students as our number one priority, and we are doing everything we can to support students, and contain the outbreak. Should you have any further questions, please contact us at student.recruitment@glasgow.ac.uk.
We wish you the best of health,
