英国留学:萨里大学土木工程迎新通知
Dear September 2017/8 starters,
I am pleased that you will be joining the University of Surrey from the end of September. I am the Programme Administrator for your course and your first port of call for any queries you have relating to the overall programme and your progress on the course. Please feel free to contact me at this address any time.
You may have received the following information already but please read through it carefully and if you have not yet done so, please follow all instructions:
Step 1: Find your Welcome Week Timetable:
Please see the Welcome web page https://welcome.surrey.ac.uk/ for the Welcome Week timetable, preparing for moving in and University registration. When visiting this page please click on all links presented and ensure that you have scrolled down to the bottom of each page so that you have read all information provided.
Step 2: Complete Online registration
Browse to Surrey Self-Service https://sits.surrey.ac.uk/live/sits.urd/run/siw_lgn?stu to complete your online registration. If you experience any difficulties, please follow the instructions on the screen.
Within Surrey Self-Service, click on ‘Registration’ and complete the required steps.
You will continue to use the same username and password details for accessing the IT Systems whilst studying at the University.
As part of the online registration process you will be asked to upload a photo of yourself, which will be used for your campus card. Your campus card will be pre-printed and available for you to collect when you register in person during Welcome Week.
Only those students who have completed Online Registration and uploaded a photo by 15 September will have their campus card pre-printed. Anyone registering online after 15 September (or if your uploaded photo is not suitable), will have to have their photo taken as part of the registration process during Welcome Week. As there may be long queues, we encourage you to complete Online Registration and upload your photo by 15 September!
On completion of Online Registration you’ll receive your ‘Confirmation of pre-registration’, which you can either print or save to your phone. Bring this along to your registration session during Welcome Week.
Please note that if you activate your IT account today, you will only be able to access IT resources after 24 – 48 hours. If you have any issues with your IT account, email account or Surreylearn after 48 hours, please email IT User Support (IT Services) usersupport@surrey.ac.uk
After 48 hours, IT resources will be available to you:
- Please visit the Current Students page http://www.surrey.ac.uk/currentstudents/ for access to your online timetables, email account, Surreylearn and many other services. Please also see IT resources available to you http://www.surrey.ac.uk/currentstudents/it/.
- Your modules will be supplemented by materials that academics upload onto your module pages on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE); SurreyLearn https://surreylearn.surrey.ac.uk/ from the start of semester. Please log into Surreylearn and take some time to explore. Please read through your Programme Handbook, under Content on the PG – Civil Engineering – Programme Information Page. Your handbook details your programme structure, required modules and other important information. A guide to using Surreylearn is attached.
- Your University email account https://surrey365.surrey.ac.uk/ will be the primary method we will use to contact you. Please check this regularly. Please note we will only contact you via your Surrey email account - we will not use personal email addresses. The Regulations state ‘…Students studying with the University are required to activate and use their University email account within 48 hours of first registering. Once their University email account has been activated students should regularly check and use their account. ‘
Step 3: Attend University registration during Welcome Week
During your first week you’ll need to attend a registration session in the University Hall – see your Welcome Week timetable on the Welcome web page https://welcome.surrey.ac.uk/ for your specific timeslot.
If you’re not on campus during Welcome Week, or you miss your allocated registration time, you should attend the Open Session in University Hall on the Friday of Welcome Week or, if you arrive after this date, please visit the Student Services Centre on the ground floor of the University Hall Block during opening hours.
Please note the registration deadline for students is 4pm on 13th of October, Friday of week 2 of semester. Students who have not registered by this date will unfortunately have to forego their university place.
What to bring:
- Confirmation of Pre-registration (received after completing online initial registration) either printed or on your phone
- Photographic proof of identity; suitable forms of ID are:
o A current full UK driving license
o A current signed passport
o A national/EU identification card - If your fees are being sponsored, your official Sponsorship letter. (Please also email this letter to feesandfunding@surrey.ac.uk so they have it on record.)
Step 4: Module selection:
Module registration for students starting this September will only be available once you have attended University registration in person. Please have a look at the attached CEE MSc Module Groups and Awards and PDF timetable/s in the meantime so that you have a good idea of the modules you wish to take. Please see the Module Catalogue http://modcat.surrey.ac.uk/ for module descriptions.
After you have registered in person and you have decided which modules you will be taking, please log into Student Self-Service https://sits.surrey.ac.uk/live/sits.urd/run/siw_lgn?stu and use the attached Online Module Selection guide to select your modules for 2017/8.
You must select modules for both semester 1 and 2. If you change your mind regarding your module choices for semester 2, there will be a further opportunity to change these during the first two weeks of semester 2, however an initial choice must be included or you will not be able to complete your module selections online.
Full Time Students must choose four modules per semester. Dissertation information will be sent to you at the start of semester.
Part-Time students must choose between 1 and four modules per semester and must not select the Dissertation at this stage. Dissertation information will be sent to Part-Time students in due course.
NB: Module selection closes at 4pm on 13th of October. NO changes will be allowed following this date. Please do not leave your selection to the last minute.
Your Online Timetable https://timetable.surrey.ac.uk/ will work following the module selection deadline. Please use the attached PDF timetables until that time. PDF Timetables will also be uploaded under Content to your Programme Information page on Surreylearn whenever they are updated but please use the online timetables as soon as available as any changes will appear online automatically. Please also see the attached Explanation of Timetable Rooming document.
