Position Research Assistant

Summary
The Research Assistant – in a part-time role – is involved in recruiting and testing participants for a new grant-funded study of monolingual and bilingual young children. They will be trained to run eye tracking and memory flexibility, studies and collect data in the field and to work on the collaborative PLAY study.  Supervised by the Principal Investigator (PI), and working closely with the PI’s Research Program Coordinator and current Ph.D. student. This is an in-person position.

Key Duties
The Research Assistant has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Participate in field visits alongside undergraduates, graduate and other research personnel to visit families

  • Assist in the collection of data in the filed

  • Assist in the office in the collation of data in a timely manner

  • Perform administrative duties, including preparation of materials for families and maintenance of records

  • Participate in in team meetings


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college

Preferred qualifications
  • Spanish speaking skills, due to the DC metropolitan area growing Spanish speaking population, and to the fact that data are collected in the home and that the study examines differences between monolingual and bilingual children

  • Current driver’s license

  • Research experience working directly with young children

Position Research Assistant

Summary
As part of a research team and under the supervision of research investigators, this position supports the conduct of pre-designed research within an NIH-funded longitudinal clinical trial that is being conducted in Baltimore, Maryland. The project examines the effect of computerized working memory training on executive function, decision-making, and associated health outcomes in low-income individuals in underserved areas of Baltimore. This position offers excellent professional development opportunities, particularly for candidates seeking to expand an existing base of research experience and pursue future graduate training. The candidate must live or be willing to relocate to the Baltimore, MD area.

Responsibilities include tasks associated with recruitment, screening, enrollment, and data collection from research participants, coordinating participant compensation, maintaining lab databases, preparing project reports for regular team meetings, and maintaining lab inventories – a  representative summary of responsibilities is presented below; however, successful applicants may perform related duties as needed.

This position is contingent upon available funding with a limited term end date of June 30, 2022, but may be extended. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.

Key Duties
70% Overall Project Execution
  • Performs recruitment, screening, and enrollment of human research subjects

  • Prepares and organizes study materials

  • Coordinates compensation activities for research subjects

  • Monitors and adheres to research project timelines

  • Prepares project reports for regular team meetings

  • Oversees students and study staff in relevant project procedures

  • Orders supplies and keeps inventory

30% Data Management and Processing
  • Performs data collection and data entry

  • Performs regular data quality assurance checks

Requirements
  • This position will be physically located in Baltimore, MD. The candidate must live or be willing to relocate to the Baltimore, MD area.

  • Data collection occurs at community centers with the Baltimore, MD area.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in using computers and related software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, SPSS).


Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of relevant research experience.

  • Ability to work with underserved populations (e.g., low SES).

  • Ability to supervise Research Aides or other research support staff.

Position Research Assistant in Mathematical Cognition

Summary
Designing and evaluating a novel board game to improve early numerical skills

This project aims at developing, in collaboration with expert game designers, a number game that will be optimised based on teachers and children’s feedback to achieve high playability. When ready, the research team will run a randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of the game in improving early numerical skills. We will organise workshops, create instructional videos, and write blog posts to engage teachers and parents to support the project, disseminate findings, and promote future studies.

An enthusiastic research assistant is sought to work with Dr Francesco Sella and Prof Tim Jay on a project funded by the Nuffield Foundation. The aim of the project is to design and subsequently evaluate the efficacy of a number game in improving numerical skills in primary school children. The successful applicant will be involved in the design of the game, and will be responsible for recruiting participants, data collection and initial analysis. In addition, they will have the opportunity to contribute to interpretation and write-up of the research.

Key Duties
  • To liaise with primary schools to recruit participants for research studies and conduct studies both at Loughborough University and at external sites.

  • To take an active role in the collation and analysis of data using a variety of methods and tools.

  • To contribute to aspects of dissemination of results such as writing methods and results sections of publications and preparing conference posters, blogposts, instructional videos.

  • To take advantage of appropriate professional development opportunities, such as conference attendance and participation in the general academic life of the Centre for Mathematical Cognition Mathematics Education Centre.

  • To contribute to the design and development of experimental studies, including use of computerised experimental software.

  • To liaise closely with primary school teachers as part of a collaborative project.

  • Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.

  • Be responsible for conducting the day to day running of the project.

  • To support the project team by enhancing relationships with existing collaborators and by assisting the establishment of relationships with new collaborators.

Vocational Specialist Position @Hamilton-Madison House

 

Position Vocational Specialist

Summary
Hamilton-Madison House is seeking a full-time Vocational Specialist who will be responsible for providing vocational services to individuals living with mental illnesses to help them achieve their vocational goals and recovery in the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services program. He/she will coordinate the vocation and employment component of the program. The position also may include carrying a small caseload of direct clinical work as needed in the program. He/she will also be involved in assisting the Assistant Executive Director and other Program Directors in developing and maintaining partnerships with other organizations on service delivery, research, community services and outreach efforts.

Key Duties
  • Coordinate the vocational/employment component of the program

  • Provide vocational services (e.g., Individual Placement and Support) to participants

  • Provide employment training services (e.g. job search, job seeking skills, job interview practice to program participants

  • Develop jobs for program participants

  • Build strong connection with the local community organizations, employers and resources

  • Provide other recovery oriented assessment, develop recovery plans, and help individuals with mental illness to fulfill their life goals, especially those with employment related goals

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to assist and engage participants in their recovery process

  • Maintain quality client records and progress notes according to OMH regulation and established HMH protocols


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human service related field

  • Bilingual English/Cantonese and/or Mandarin required

  • Knowledge or experience in Individual Placement a Support (IPS) and government benefits preferred

PROS Counselor Position @ Hamilton-Madison House

 

Position PROS Counselor

Summary
Hamilton-Madison House is seeking a full-time PROS Counselor who will be responsible for providing comprehensive rehabilitative services for adults who have serious mental illness. The goal is to help participants achieve personal levels of satisfaction for employment, education, housing, relationships and community involvement. PROS Counselor work with participants to develop individual recovery plans that align with the individual’s life goals and objectives.

Key Duties
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 15 participants, providing case management, referrals, and vocational assistance to coordinate services

  • Conduct required assessments including wellness recovery action plans, psycho-social, psychiatric rehabilitation, vocational readiness, and chemical abuse or dependence screening

  • Develop individualized recovery plans based on the above listed assessments

  • Develop and facilitate groups, according to protocol, which cover Community Rehabilitation and Support, Intensive Rehabilitation Ongoing Rehabilitation and Support, and Clinical Services as dictated by the Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs) of program participants

  • Conduct individual counseling sessions to assist program participants with attainment of the life-role goals specified in their IRPs

  • Document participant’s progress/regression towards goals in progress notes and determine the need for additional or subtraction of services offered to each participant on an ongoing basis

  • Coordinate follow up services once a participant is ready for discharge from the program

  • Responsible for maintenance of client records, including timely documentation of services as required by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services and the Office of Mental health

  • Enter timely documentation in EMR system


Qualifications
  • BA or MA in Human Service related field, MA preferred

  • Bilingual English/Cantonese and/or Mandarin required

  • Prior community based health work experience preferred

  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness preferred
