Responsibilities

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field – Minimum one year work or volunteer

experience in a psychology or psychiatry research setting – Act 33/34/73 Clearances (Child Abuse/Criminal History/FBI)

Interest in psychological research and working with women and children from diverse racial, economic, and educational backgrounds;

will be organized, attentive to detail and protocol, yet creative in solving problems;

will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will work well as a team – each assessment involves the coordination of several staff members working together.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, natural science, or a technical field discipline from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.

Experience working with infants, children, and parents, preferably in a research setting or a minimum of one year of experience working in a lab, and demonstrated interest in behavioral or developmental research.

Experience with eye-tracking is a plus but not required.

Experience with database management (such as FileMaker software) is preferred but not required.
Key Duties
-
Assist with data collection for a longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, including behavioral and eye tracking experiments.
-
Prepare participants and equipment for behavioral and eye tracking data collection by explaining the tasks to participants, consenting them and testing the equipment.

Organize and store data
-
Work with project staff and undergraduate research assistants on all protocols, testing administration, scoring procedures, and data management
-
Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling of research participants. This may include distribution of flyers, calling families from a database, posting online advertisements, etc.

Assist with various research-related activities, such as creating stimuli and research materials, updating various lab materials following sessions, and assisting with lab reports.

In our group, we investigate infants’ and children’s social-cognitive development, broadly construed. In particular, we explore the developmental origins of human cooperation, norms, and morality. Moreover, we are interested in the role of (social-)cognitive and motivational processes (e.g., theory of mind, epistemology, prosociality) in the ontogeny of normativity. Empirical methods include, inter alia, interview techniques, interactive behavioral paradigms, and eye-tracking experiments.

Summary
The position also requires the person to be present in the lab on most weekdays to ensure timely project deliverables. This position will also include some general administrative duties, such as monitoring budgets, drafting administrative forms, and contributing to research reports and presentations. As such, this person needs to have strong, professional writing skills and prioritize and delegate tasks when necessary. Given the collaborative nature of the research, the position also requires excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to help brainstorm solutions to challenges and streamline processes as needed.
Examples of Duties

Organize and schedule monthly or bi-monthly meetings/calls with department budget staff to monitor the grant budget (e.g., funds available for participant compensation)

Assist in writing research reports on a quarterly and/or annually basis.

Assist, as needed, with USF IRB-related tasks across multiple studies (e.g., revisions of project applications/protocols).
-
Organize and clean datasets across various projects.
-
Manage participant compensation for each grant-related project.

Track programmatic trainings and coordinate the completion of fidelity checks.

Assist in the recruitment, application review, interview, and training process of new volunteer research assistants and oversee their day-to-day work.

Schedule meetings, draft agendas, and lead weekly lab meetings and coordinate evaluation and programmatic staff meetings to discuss grant progress, deadlines, and brainstorm challenges, as needed.
Education & Experience Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in office or administrative support or research support. College education may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor and/or master’s degree in a social science field, preferably psychology.

Prior volunteer and/or research management experience.
Experience working with the IRB.(Note: Not having any of the above experiences is okay as long as there is a willingness to learn.)
Special Skills/Training:

Computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office, USF email).

Proficient in Spanish.

Knowledge of Excel and SPSS for basic data upkeep, cleaning, and analyses.

Knowledge of suicide prevention and/or therapeutic alliance research and a general understanding of the research process.

Knowledge of Qualtrics to create surveys and download data.

Knowledge of participant recruitment platforms (e.g., SONA).

Proficient in conducting literature reviews (e.g., utilizing Google Scholar and other databases, identifying relevant articles).

Ability to effectively manage job-related stress and conversations related to suicide and other sensitive mental health topics.(Note: These topics are never discussed lightly, only when concerning research.)

An interest in suicide prevention and therapeutic alliance research.

Self-motivated, especially when working toward non-pressing deadlines.
