Tomorrow is the Dragon Boat Festival! It's time to enjoy traditional Chinese food: Zong zi! Now, here is a question, what's your favourite flavour?
Salty or Sweet?
Duanwu Festival, or Dragon Boat Festival has different origins. People celebrates it in May 5th of lunar calendar. However, in old times, this day was deemed as "evil day", when all devils will show up. Thus, ancestors created a plenty of ways to protect themselves.
Before Quyuan jumping into the Miluo River, our ancestors also prepared zong zi for chilling out in boiling summer time.
Still before Quyuan, ancestors need to send the devils away as soon as possible. So, this is how dragon boat competition came from, as dragon stands for lucky.
Except dragon boats, ancestors used different kinds of herbs to avoid devils, such as garlic, wormwood or pomegranate. Little kids need wear spice bags or colour strings for safety.
In Japan, Duanwu Festival turns out into "The Boy's Day" because of the development of history.
Or
咸
?
