 公共卫生专业硕士申请要求

1.1 专业背景

MPH不限制本科背景,因为它本身有多个分支,所以欢迎多个专业的学生申请。常见的本科背景如下:

 

·         公共卫生,公共管理(公卫方向),预防医学,临床医学,药学,生物学,生物统计,生物科技,神经科学,护理,自然科学等基础学科等

·         具有一定医学背景或公卫经历的其它学科如数学,法学, 教育学,英语等

·         管理学,经济学,统计,应用数学,计算机等

 

1.2 先修课要求

常见的先修课要求:

l  微积分

l  线性代数

l  概率与统计/统计课程

l  Human biology类课程

1. 可以考虑通过修读二学位,辅修学位,参加美国暑校,或者修网课等方式弥补。常用网站:Coursera,Edx, MOOC,Udacity等

2. 国内的课程名与课程内容与国外不尽一致,有部分课程可能涵盖以下课程内容,比如高等数学涵盖微积分和线性代数,建议老师们与学生给予选课建议时与学生进行讨论后确定。

 

1.3 申请方式和申请Checklist

美国的公共卫生项目大部分是通过SOPHAS系统递交申请,也有部分院校是通过学校自己的网申系统来申请,如UC Davis和University of Washington的公共卫生项目。SOPHAS既Schools of Public Health Application Service,故名思义,就是帮助学生申请公卫专业的机构。

Official test scores – GRE/GMAT, TOEFL

Letters of recommendation (哥大的明确提出要提供官方邮箱提交推荐信)

Personal statement(有的学校需要PHS,UCB, Umich, UCI,UCD等)

需注意:1. 国际生成绩单需要做WES认证,海本成绩单需要在Sophas系统录入(可以交费录入,也可以手动录入);2. 送分和成绩单要求(SOPHAS或院校或both);3. 截止日期:各个院校不一样。

 

1.4 背景提升

除了硬件成绩,建议在校期间或者在寒暑假期间参加一些相关的科研和实习,提升自己的申请竞争力。

 

科研:建议参与一些相关领域的科研如参与生物学,化学,神经科学,医学,药学领域的科研项目,进行数据收集,分析和处理,然后做出评估和预测等。可以通过参与校内实验室项目,国内外高校暑研项目, 科研所的实习等来提升自己的科研能力。

 

实习:

·         社区卫生服务机构,医院,医院传染科,预防保健科,感染科,疾病控制与预防中心,卫生监督局,防疫站等卫生机构

·         NGO

·         咨询公司、证券公司、银行、保险公司等金融经济类公司,从事风险控制、市场调查等岗位;

·         医药研发公司、生物科技公司、医疗设备公司、统计局、环保局等机构从事数据调查和分析的岗位;

 

活动:

·         相关的志愿者,暑期实践活动(例如设计问卷做调查,录入数据,处理数据,分析数据写报告等)

参加相关的实习,科研及活动除了提升自己的软实力背景以外,还能展现自己对公卫的兴趣和决心(公卫专业注重commitment)。

Part 2: Large-scale 3D Image Data Processing

l   Originated solution for analyzing brightness distribution in 3D images based on observations of dataset in Kurumi

l   Created heat maps in R to get planar images of grayscale dot matrix for each cross section of 3D images, to represent brightness with sum of gray intensity values in each planar image

Research Project: Engineering Folate Receptor – Mediated Drug Using Solid Phase Synthesis

²  Background:

·           Elevated expression of the folate receptor occurred in many human malignancies, especially when associated with aggressively growing cancers;

·           Folate receptors bound to folate and reduced folic acid derivatives mediates the delivery of tetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells;

·           Folate receptors bound to extracellular folates with very high affinity, through an endocytic process, physically delivers them inside the cell for biological consumption.

²  Responsibilities:

·           Assisted Prof. **  in conducting a solid phase drug module synthesis experiment designed for FA-based SMDC (small-molecule drug conjugates);

·           Gained hours of training on various fundamental biochemistry lab techniques and participated in a range of hands-on laboratory work;

·           Involved in the chemical component of doctoral drug research and independently completed various solid phase synthesis used to synthetize the fragment-based drugs in development;
