今天我们的Charles外教将为大家推荐5本不可错过的英文好书,想要通过阅读提高英文的小伙伴们一起读起来吧~

Ella Enchanted – Gail Carson Levine
- In the land of Kyrria, a young girl named Ella is born. At birth she is placed under a spell(被施了魔法) by a fairy(仙女) in which she must obey(服从) every command(命令) she is given. All seems fine with her growing up as she is being protected(保护) by her mother. But after something happens to her mother, things take a different turn and now she ends up going on an adventure(冒险) and falls for a prince. She comes to a point where she must question the spell she was placed under.

Holes - Louis Sachar
- A story about a boy named Stanley, who is wrongfully accused of(被指控) committing a crime(犯罪) and is sent to a camp for juvenile delinquents(少年犯集中营) as punishment(惩罚) and to build character, and is tasked with digging holes(挖洞). They find a gold tube, which the warden(典狱长) likes. They soon come to realize that they are not digging in order to build character, but because the ones in charge are actually searching for something and using the boys as workers. Stanley unfolds more about his past as he tries to figure out what is really going on.


American Born Chinese – Gene Luen Yang
- In this graphic novel, three main story lines are told and converge in the end. Each plot focuses on characters that feel judged. The first plot is about the Monkey King who is insulted(侮辱,冒犯) by other rulers and decides he wants to prove himself. The second plot is about a boy named Jin who is a young Chinese American(华裔美国人) who doesn’t fit(适合) in well at school and befriends another Chinese immigrant(移民) named Wei-Chen. The third plot is about Danny – a high school student that changes new schools every year because his cousin, Chin-kee, who fits a lot of racial stereotypes(种族偏见), embarrasses(令某人难堪) him, and so then a conflict(冲突) happens. In the end, all of the characters are connected, and the moral of the story is to be comfortable with who you are, to not make fun of(取笑) other people, and to accept people from all backgrounds.

The Maze Runner – James Dashner
- A teenager named Thomas wakes up in an elevator(电梯), and gets pulled into an area full of other boys. Nobody has any memory of anything(不记得任何事情). There is a giant maze(巨大的迷宫) nearby with high walls that is very dangerous. The boys are stuck trying to survive in their little area while still trying to figure out how they could solve how to get through the maze. A girl named Teresa shows up(出现了) which further pushes the plot forward, and everyone is certain they can figure out how to get out of the maze. But, will leaving the maze truly grant them their freedom? Or is there something else more nefarious(邪恶的) happening?

When You Reach Me - Rebecca Stead
-A young girl named Miranda. Her mother is a single mother and paralegal(律师助理), who does her best to raise(抚养) her. One day, Miranda begins receiving strange notes hidden in her own possessions by an unknown person. At first Miranda is frightened by these notes, but soon she becomes intrigued(感到好奇). Now she is determined to(决定) find out who is sending the notes and why.
