    This course reviews all previous morphology and grammatical syntax and introduces students to the more sophisticated structures of the Latin language: from ablative absolutes to indirect statements.  Uniting all materials, from vocabulary to translation to cultural material, are the stories from the Cambridge Latin Course Units III and IV.  Topics range from the senatorial class to poetry in the Augustan Age.  All Latin is closely based on original material and a variety of literary genres is introduced, from the poetry of Ovid to the epigrams of Martial.

    This course is designed for students who have completed Latin III so successfully that they would like to continue studying Latin literature.  Using The Cambridge Latin Anthology as the core text, the students explore, translate and recite Latin from a wide variety of authors.  Recognition of literary and rhetorical devices is taught.  Hexameter scansion of epic poetry is practiced in written and oral forms.

      * Department permission required.

    The course introduces a core vocabulary, idioms, major pronoun groups, verbs of the three regular conjugations in present and preterite, and the most important irregular ones. Present progressive and the near future are also introduced. Cultural topics are included in each unit. Because this course covers nearly the same material as the two years of Middle School Spanish, the pace is brisk. Conversational Spanish is the goal and communicative activities play a large part in this course.

    AP课程

    Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanics, English Language, English Literature, Computer Science, Art History, European History, Macroeconomics, U.S. History, World History, Statistics Studio ArtEnvironmental Science, French Language and Culture, Spanish Language and Culture, Latin LiteratureThis course is organized around six chronological periods treated thematically around a group of key concepts rather than lists of facts, events, and dates. Students will spend less time on factual recall and more on learning essential concepts that empower them to develop thinking skills that allow them to explore and analyze broad trends and global issues.

    *Departmental permission required. AP Art History is a yearlong course that explores the history of art from prehistoric times to the modern era. All students in the course take the AP Art History exam in May. The course carries with it the expectation that students will be committed to maintaining the accelerated pace of this college-level course. During the year, students engage in projects, presentations, group discussions, written critiques, quizzes, short and long essays, and they maintain a notebook where they record observations. There is regular use of educational technology. Additionally, the course includes visits to the Yale University art galleries. Independent assignments also encourage the use of the facilities at Yale.

    This course reviews fundamental material from French A and B, introducing students to more advanced French grammar, including reflexive verbs, the imperfect past tense, direct and indirect object pronouns, and the pronouns y and en. Cultural topics and short presentations are integrated into the curriculum.  The pace is faster than in French B. With departmental permission, qualified students may contract for honors, which requires one extra weekly assignment and more challenging assessments.

    This course will provide students with a thorough knowledge of group dynamics.
