追寻英语的起源

TESOL的全称是 "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages" ，即为：教授母语为非英语人士英语。读起来非常绕口，但是意思却不难理解。可能大家会有一些误区，觉得TESOL就是国内的英语专业，其实不然，TESOL更偏向于教学方法论，而非单纯的Language（语言）。但是TESOL对英语的要求也是很高的，大部分学校要求雅思6.5以上。招生官们希望学生本科阶段就有非常良好的英语功底，在此基础上，再教授他们如何侧重于教学。

我们以杜伦大学的TESOL专业课程设置为例。

我们能清晰地看到，杜伦大学TESOL MA专业核心课程包括：基础研究方法、语言教学、语言教学方法和实践，以及基础英语教学。和所有英国大学一样，学生可以自主地选择几门和专业相关的选修课程。杜伦大学在TESOL方向也提供了众多的选择：世界英语、专业英语、英语教学材料的研发和评估、论述文本和英语教学、语言教学方法、高级研究方法、第二语言教学：老师视角、评价和评估、少儿英语教学、以及语用学和语言课堂。所以，几乎所有的课程都是和教学、方法论挂钩的，没有太多的纯英语类课程。

由于TESOL的实践性很强，所以部分学校也会要求申请者有相关的工作经验。

UCL-伦敦大学学院

“撕葱”的母校有两个与TESOL相关的专业，所以申请的时候一定要擦亮眼睛，避免搞混。因为两个专业的要求还是存在很大的差别。

Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA

录取要求：Applicants should have a second-class Bachelor's degree (with a minimum overall average mark of 85%.) in a relevant subject (e.g. English, languages, education, linguistics). Applicants normally need at least two years' full-time language teaching experience or part-time equivalent post first degree.（要求申请者至少有两年的工作经验）

雅思要求：Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.

Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Pre-Service MA

录取要求：Normally a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree (with a minimum overall average mark of 85%.) from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a related area in the field of English or linguistics.（不要求工作经验）

雅思要求：Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.

这两个专业经常会被搞混，所以申请的时候一定要辨别清楚！

爱丁堡大学

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

录取要求：A UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a relevant discipline. Previous teaching experience is not required.（不要求工作经验）

If you are studying at a Chinese 211 institution, you must have a minimum overall average of 80% for courses and at least 80% on the dissertation. For non-211 institutions, you must have an average of 85% for courses and 80% on the dissertation.（211要求80分、非211要求85分）

雅思要求：Total 7.0 (at least 6.5 in each module)

巴斯大学

MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL)

录取要求：Typically a 1st or 2:1 Honours degree.（不要求工作经验，但对个人陈述有要求）

雅思要求：IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components)

纽卡斯尔大学

Applied Linguistics and TESOL MA

录取要求：A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in: English language, English literature,linguistics, a similar related subject

We will also consider your application if you have: two years of full time language teaching experience.（不要求工作经验，但是有工作经验可以弥补背景的不足）

雅思要求：IELTS 6.5 overall (with 6.5 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in all other sub-skills.

莱斯特大学

录取要求：2:2 or above in a relevant subject, or equivalent.（不要求工作经验）

雅思要求：IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with at least 6.0 in each component score.

杜伦大学

录取要求：A good first degree (UK 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent). 不要求工作经验

雅思要求：7.0 (no component under 7.0)

斯特灵大学

TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages MSc

录取要求：Normally, a minimum of a second class Honours degree (2.1 preferred) or equivalent in a relevant subject. Applicants without these formal qualifications but with significant appropriate/relevant work/life experience are encouraged to apply.（不要求工作经验，但是建议有工作经验）

雅思要求：IELTS: 6.5 with at least 6.0 in speaking and listening and 6.5 in reading and writing.
