室内设计专业通常设置在艺术设计系之下，这种情况下的室内设计学习内容比较侧重于一种蓝图式的设计，包括制图技术、设计中的文化内涵、历史等等，注重对光线、色调、和谐的居住环境的要求。
还有一种是在设计系、建筑设计系下的，这种室内设计课程除了一些基本的室内设计课程外，还比较侧重于房屋结构、装潢材料，不仅是室内，还包括一些室外的建筑结构布局、商务类住宅的设计等等。
